Chevrolet’s new 2011 Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD pickups deliver the segment’s best diesel power. Their new, optional 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel V-8 is rated at 397 horsepower (296 kW) at 3,000 rpm and 765 lb.-ft. of torque (1,037 Nm) at 1,600 rpm – an improvement of 32 horsepower (24 kW) and 105 lb.-ft. of torque (142 Nm) over last year’s engine.

BMW Increases Sales Worldwide By 14 Percent In February


The BMW Group once again improved sales volumes substantially in February of this year. A total of 91,758 BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce automobiles were delivered to customers (prev. yr. 80,474) – representing an increase of 14.0%. The figure for the year to the end of February was 173,911 units – 15.3% higher than the previous year (150,893).

Toyota/Lexus/Scion Among Industry Leaders in Many February 2010 Sales Categories


February 2010 automotive industry sales results saw Toyota, Lexus and Scion models rank prominently among brand and segment leaders. Overall Toyota sales in February topped all other Asian and European manufacturers. February also saw Toyota claim two of the top three selling passenger cars in the U.S. Toyota once again dominated the hybrid market, while Tacoma continues to overwhelmingly lead the small pickup truck segment.

- Higher R&D expenditure in new models and current range

- Strong net liquidity guarantees long term strategy

After another historic sales record year in 2008, Automobili Lamborghini saw a decline in turnover in 2009. In the wake of the crisis on car markets worldwide, turnover decreased from 478.8 million euros to 281.0 million euros. Deliveries from January to December 2009 reduced by 37.7% from 2,430 to 1,515 units worldwide.

AT&T Becomes Lead Customer For Ford Transit Connect Electric


Azure Dynamics Corporation today announced AT&T has agreed to purchase two of the first Ford Transit Connect Electric vans, the latest addition to AT&T’s growing fleet of alternative-fuel vehicles.

The Ford Transit Connect Electric -- the all-electric version of the 2010 Ford Transit Connect, the North American Truck of the Year -- will be powered by Azure Dynamics’ patented Force Drive™ electric drivetrain with an advanced lithium-ion battery from Johnson Controls-Saft. The vehicle, which goes on sale later this year, has a range of up to 80 miles on a single charge and will be rechargeable using either 240-volt or standard 120-volt outlets. It has a top speed of 75 miles per hour.

With the rapid convergence of in-car technology and the Internet, Ford Motor Company said today it is offering a suite of security features to protect the personal information of millions of Ford owners from the threat of computer hackers and viruses.

Protecting customers is critical as Ford moves to the forefront of in-car personal technology. Ford's popular SYNC system allows owners to connect digital media players and Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones to their vehicle's entertainment system and operate them with voice commands. The mobile phone also is a gateway to a number of Internet "cloud" services through SYNC's Traffic, Directions and Information application that provides turn-by-turn directions, business searches and more.

Toyota and Exponent have provided Professor David Gilbert of Southern Illinois University with the results of their thorough evaluations of his demonstration of apparent "unintended acceleration" in Toyota and Lexus vehicles as described in his Preliminary Report and in his testimony at recent Congressional hearings. In evaluating Professor Gilbert’s claims, Exponent also analyzed the footage of Professor Gilbert’s appearance on ABC News on February 22, 2010.

We have received the letter and will, of course, cooperate. Toyota has already agreed to keep the Committee informed on a regular basis. We are providing them with the Exponent report and results of additional testing by Toyota regarding erroneous allegations by Mr. Gilbert that sudden unwanted acceleration can easily be induced in real world conditions. Toyota has offered to demonstrate the results of our further research and would welcome committee representatives to observe those demonstrations.

Camaro Sets Pace for the U.S. Sports Car Segment


Chevrolet Camaro extended its lead in the U.S. sports car segment in February, posting 6,482 total sales. This is a 21 percent increase over January results, and marks the ninth consecutive month that Camaro total sales outpaced sports car models including the Ford Mustang, Nissan 370Z, and Dodge Challenger.

Consumers have bought nearly 75,000 Camaros since it was launched in early 2009, and demand continues to hold steady even in winter months.

New Mustang V-6 Makes History As First Car With 300+ Hp And 30+ Mpg


The 2011 Ford Mustang today breaks new ground, cracking the record books as not only the most fuel-efficient Mustang ever, but also the first production car in history to produce more than 300 horsepower and more than 30 mpg highway.

The Mustang’s official EPA ratings – completed this week – certify that models equipped with the 305-hp 3.7-liter V-6 and available six-speed automatic transmission achieve 31 mpg on the highway and 19 mpg in the city. The standard six-speed manual transmission is rated at 30 mpg on the highway and 19 mpg in the city.

Mazda Reports Sales Increase For February


Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today reported February 2010 sales of 17,054, an increase of 4.0 percent versus February 2009, and the fourth straight month of sales increases. Year-to-date, Mazda sales are up 2.9 percent, and up 5.1 percent on a DSR (daily selling rate) basis (48 selling days in 2010 compared to 49 selling days through February in 2009).
