Automatic Racing and RSR Motorsports: A Pole and a Podium at Homestead
The second round of the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season was a memorable one for Automatic Racing and RSR Motorsports. Sarah Cattaneo earned the Street Tuner pole in the Automatic-prepared No. 197 RSR Mini Cooper S, while teammates BJ Zacharias and Craig Conway took home third in the No. 198 Mini.
The 2.5-hour race at Homestead-Miami Speedway started with Cattaneo on the Street Tuner (ST) pole, the first time a female driver has qualified on the series pole in three years. Cattaneo held down second place during her stint, and it seemed that she and co-driver VJ Mirzayan would hold on for a podium finish. A mechanical problem dropped them back, though, before their eventual retirement.

2010 Homestead: Gainsco/Stallings Grand Am Race Recap
GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing and drivers Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty held on for a third-place finish in Saturday’s Grand Prix of Miami to move into contention in both the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototype Team and Driver Championship standings after their best career-finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Fogarty jumped to the lead from the outside of the front row at the race start but soon realized the No. No. 99 GAINSCO Auto Insurance Chevrolet Riley lacked the pace of the other front runners. Pole-sitter Darren Law moved the No. 59 Brumos Porsche Riley into the lead on Lap 6 and the No. 99 went from early race leader to fighting for a top-three podium spot for the remainder of the race.

2010 Homestead: Miller Barrett Grand Am Race Recap
Miller Barrett Racing didn't get to see the checkered flag at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Saturday night. The team was running 10th in the GT class when a gearbox failure zapped its No. 48 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup out of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series race presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16.
Luke Hines of Essex, England, drove the first 42 minutes of the two-hour 45-minute race on the 2.3-mile infield road course in Homestead, Fla. He started eighth in class, but lost two positions to the more powerful Mazda cars. Bryce Miller of Summit, N.J., took the wheel for the second stint, holding 10th in class until he stopped for tires and fuel at 1h24. He reported problems with the gearbox and differential 11 minutes later, then lost all but sixth gear. The car was retired from the race.

2010 Homestead: SunTrust Racing Grand Am Race Recap
Event: Grand Prix of Miami (Round 2 of 12)
Series: Daytona Prototype division of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series
Location: Homestead-Miami Speedway (2.3-mile, 11-turn road course)
Start/Finish: 5th / 6th (Running, completed 128 of 129 laps)
Winners: Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas of the No. 01 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates BMW Riley
Yellow flags and GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series races at Homestead-Miami Speedway have come to be synonymous over the years. So much so that the No. 10 SunTrust Ford Dallara team of Wayne Taylor Racing, featuring drivers Max Angelelli and Ricky Taylor, felt they had the perfect strategy to pull off the victory in Saturday night’s Grand Prix of Miami despite struggling with tire wear issues in practice and qualifying for the second consecutive year on the 2.3-mile, 11-turn speedway road circuit.

2010 Homestead: Krohn Racing Grand Am Race Recap
Round 2 of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series at Homestead-Miami Speedway didn’t produce the strong results for which the Krohn Racing team had hoped. The No. 75 Krohn Racing Ford Proto-Auto Lola finished 13th overall on the 2.3-mile South Florida superspeedway. Tracy W. Krohn, car owner/driver, qualified the car 15th and drove 99 laps before turning over the 530-horsepower Prototype car to teammate Nic Jönsson. Nic took it to the checkered flag, where the Krohn team finished 13th, seven laps down from the winners.
The Grand Prix of Miami race saw Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas take the victory in their No. 01 TELMEX BMW Riley. Six drivers led the race, which only saw a single caution.

Homestead: Grand-Am Qualifying Results - Law Captures Record Pole
Darren Law - with some help from Brumos Racing official Hurley Haywood - ran a lap of 1:11.806 (115.311 mph) to capture the pole for Saturday's Grand Prix of Miami, Round 2 of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16.
Law led a nine-driver assault on Jon Fogarty's five-month-old Homestead-Miami Speedway Daytona Prototype track record in preparation for the two-hour, 45-minute race that takes the green flag at 5 p.m. ET Saturday (SPEED, live).
Paul Edwards won the GT pole in the No. 07 Mobil 1 Corvette with a lap of 1:18.123 (106.322 mph). Eight drivers were under Nick Ham's 2009 track mark in the 15-minute session.
Fogarty qualified second in the No. 99 GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing Chevrolet, 1:11.839 (114.311 mph), followed by Brian Frisselle in the No. 6 The Pit Stop on Norris Lake Ford Riley, 1:12.079 (114.874 mph); Memo Rojas in the No. 01 TELMEX BMW Riley, 1:12.166 (114.735 mph); and Ricky Taylor in the No. 10 SunTrust Ford Dallara, 1:12.282 (114.551 mph).
Also eclipsing the former track record were Ryan Hunter-Reay in the No. 95 Crown Royal Cask No. 16/US Bank BMW Riley, Mark Wilkins in the No. 61 Pacific Mobile Ford Riley, Buddy Rice in the No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Porsche Coyote, and Rolex 24 At Daytona winner Terry Borcheller in the No. 9 Action Express Racing Porsche Riley.
Haywood won last October's Grand Prix as a late substitute in the No. 59 Brumos Racing Porsche Riley, co-driving with Joao Barbosa. One of America's most successful endurance racers, Haywood retired from active competition following the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona - a race he won a record five times. He remains active in the sport as an official with Brumos Racing.
"Prior to going out, Hurley told me to get in the car and visualize the track," said Law, who won his only prior pole position at Homestead-Miami Speedway in 2005. "I kind of blew it off, but I did get in the car early and tried to visualize it. Then we went out and won the pole, and Hurley's taking all the credit for it."
Fogarty had a personal streak of winning the pole in his last five qualifying attempts, while he ended 2009 by winning the pole in six of the last seven races, including the finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. "We would like to be on the pole, but it's a good starting position," said Fogarty, who shared the 2007 and 2009 Daytona Prototype championships with Alex Gurney. "I'm a little disappointed that we didn't maximize qualifying, but we were also trying to conserve our tires and not put a lot of laps on them. We only ran one quick lap. The Brumos guys are right there and super fast. "
Edwards and Banner Racing won the GT class in three of its last four Homestead races in a Pontiac. Edwards will be joined on Saturday by Scott Russell in the No. 07 Mobil 1 Corvette, with the motorcycle legend missing Friday's Homestead activities to participate in SPEED's coverage of the Daytona 200 By Honda - America's premier motorcycle race. Russell won that event five times.
"We couldn't do three laps in a row at Daytona without it breaking down," said Edwards. "Today, we ran all day without a problem. The car's fast. We're getting the car very well balanced. The team's done a remarkable job to get the car where we didn't have a hiccup in it. That gives me a lot of confidence."
SpeedSource claimed the next three positions and Mazda the next four. Jonathan Bomarito made his qualifying debut as regular co-driver in the Rolex 24 class-winning SpeedSource No. 70 Castrol Syntec Mazda RX-8 by winning the outside pole with a lap of 1:18.132 (105.975 mph).
John Edwards qualified third in the debut of the SpeedSource No. 68 Nuclear Clean Air Energy Mazda RX-8, 1:18.137 (105.968 mph), followed by Emil Assentato in the SpeedSource No. 69 FXDD Mazda, 1:18.144 (105.958 mph) and Todd Lamb in the No. 30 Racers Edge Motorsports Mazda RX-8, 1:18.219 (105.857 mph).
Also under Ham's old track record were Andrew Davis in the No. 57 Stevenson Automotive Group/Vin Solutions Camaro, James Gue in Dempsey Racing's No. 41 Global Diving Mazda RX-8 and Luke Hines in the No. 48 Miller Barrett Racing Porsche GT3.
Final practice for the Grand Prix of Miami will be held 9:10 a.m. ET Saturday. The day's activities also includes the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge. The Grand Prix of Miami will be broadcast live on radio and internet by the Motor Racing Network.

2010 Homestead: Gainsco/Stallings Grand Am Qualifying Recap
GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing and the No. 99 GAINSCO "Red Dragon" Chevrolet Riley Daytona Prototype will start on the outside of the front row for Saturday’s Grand Prix of Miami after a qualifying lap of 1:11.839 (115.258 mph) Friday came up just short in driver Jon Fogarty’s bid for a sixth consecutive GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series pole and his second in a row at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Fogarty will start alongside the No. 59 Brumos Porsche Riley of Darren Law who won the pole with a record lap of 1:11.806 (115.311 mph) that eclipsed Fogarty’s previous record of 1:12.879 (113.613 mph) set in qualifying at Homestead-Miami last October.

2010 Homestead: Miller Barrett Grand Am Qualifying Recap
Miller Barrett Racing will start the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 race at Homestead-Miami Speedway from eighth on the GT-class grid. The team's No. 48 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup was the fastest Porsche qualifier in the 19-car class, behind five Mazda and two Chevrolet entries.
Luke Hines of Essex, England, qualified for Miller Barrett Racing, lapping the 2.3-mile infield road course in Homestead, Fla., in one minute 18.830 seconds, at an average speed of 105.036 mph. A Homestead rookie, Hines had little time to learn the track as a tire puncture put him into the wall during the Friday afternoon practice session. The crew quickly replaced the car's right-rear bodywork and got him back on track just in time for the qualifying session.
