Homestead Q&A: NASCAR Sprint Cup - Chip Ganassi, Jamie McMurry

CHIP GANASSI, TEAM OWNER; JAMIE MCMURRY, DRIVER AND KEVIN "BONO" MANION, NO. 1 BASS PRO SHOPS/TRACKER BOATS IMPALA SS, met with members of the media at Homestead-Miami Speedway and discussed the announcement of Jamie as driver for 2010, the goal of the team for 2010 and other topics:

TELL US ABOUT THE RECENT ANNOUNCEMENT THAT JAMIE MCMURRAY WAS RETURNING TO EARNHARDT-GANASSI RACING TO DRIVE THE NO. 1 BASS PRO SHOPS CHEVROLET.

CHIP GANASSI: "You know I think as everybody in the room probably knows, we have first-hand knowledge of Jamie McMurray and the job he can do. I think it’s interesting to me, the one thing that sticks in my mind is the three years he was with us that first year obviously having the win there down in Charlotte which was huge but really the second and third years everybody forgets that when we got to Richmond those years and the first years of the Chase we were 11th and they only took 10 guys in the Chase and we were 11th. I think the second year we were 12th and that’s when they were only taking 10 guys in the Chase. I know I forgot that. It seemed at the time like that wasn’t that big of a deal to do and we’ve all found out since that it is a big deal to do. So I’m really happy to have Jamie back. I think in the days of 2004 whenever he told me he was going to be leaving that was a different time in NASCAR then. I remember telling him that day he was making the right decision, when he left us. Those were the days when it looked like he needed a big, four cars team. I hope our team has shown this year maybe you don’t need to have all that to do well. Anyway that’s the drum that I’m going to beat for a while but I think it’s got some merit to it. You can be a good team and maybe not need six cars on your team or whatever.

Homestead Q&A: NASCAR Sprint Cup - Greg Biffle

GREG BIFFLE No. 16 3M Ford Fusion

"This is definitely a good race track for us. I enjoy this race track. I enjoy racing here. It seems like the track is starting to, obviously, year after year a track starts to lose a little bit of grip and the groove moves around. With our cars, the groove is up top right away. I’m surprised to see that. This is the first time in a long time that any track than Darlington we run at the top of the race track. It’s going to be interesting to see what it’ll take to make passes here and all of that with the groove being up against the fence. We’ll see what Sunday brings for us. Hopefully, we’ll get our car running good up at the top and we’ll be good on Sunday."

Homestead Q&A: NASCAR Sprint Cup - Ryan Newman

RYAN NEWMAN, NO. 39 STEWART-HAAS IMPALA SS, met with members of the media at Homestead-Miami Speedway and discussed looking back on his season, looking ahead to next season, what it will take to knock the No. 48 off their throne and more.

HAVE YOU HAD TIME TO LOOK BACK AND SEE HOW THE SEASON WENT? "Yeah, we’ve had time but honestly we don’t take time to really do that because we’re so focused on this year and at the same time if you spend time thinking about things we’ve accomplished I guess we’re not thinking about the things we can accomplish. With the U.S. Army I’m extremely proud and honored to represent them and look forward to 2010. We have had a really good year. If we’d win one race it would be a great year in my eyes but we have one more shot at that here in Homestead and I feel that we’ll have a competitive race car. It’s the same car we had at Texas and Kansas. Just kind of a catch 22, we look forward to this race but also look forward to the end of this season. You get to do some things and kind of regroup with the team because we didn’t know what to expect going into 2009. We’ve got a good group of guys with Tony Gibson leading them. I think we can come out of the box really strong in Daytona in 2010."

Milestone Moment In Miami For Mike Skinner & Toyota In NASCAR Truck Series

When the green flag waves to start Friday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, it will mark the 150th race for Toyota in the series since the beginning of the 2004 season.

"Reaching our 150th start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series is a great moment for Toyota and the Tundra," said Ed Laukes, corporate manager of motorsports operations, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. "We’ve been able to align ourselves with some extremely talented drivers like Mike Skinner, who has made all 150 starts in a Tundra, and Todd Bodine who was our inaugural driver’s champion in the series. What we’ve accomplished during our first 150 races is a result of the dedication of all the teams and drivers that have campaigned Tundras over the past six seasons, as well as the hard work of everyone at TRD, U.S.A."

Season's Cheer For Successful 2009 NASCAR Season

Guest Column By Cathy Elliott

It hardly seems possible that the 2009 NASCAR season is so close to being neatly wrapped, beribboned and placed carefully into racing’s record books. And while late November may not be the traditionally-accepted time for reflection –- December 31 lays claim to that honor –- sometimes we are controlled by our circumstances, rather than the other way around.

Homestead Q&A: NASCAR Sprint Cup - Jeff Gordon

JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 DUPONT IMPALA SS met with media and discussed the strengths of Rick Hendrick, Jimmie Johnson's success, the Chase format, and more.

Q. What is your outlook for the weekend?

JEFF GORDON: Outlook is good. We're excited about trying to finish the season out on a positive note, try to get us a win, try to get up as high in the points as we possibly can. Hopefully that means a win and second in the points. That's what our goal is. Till we get out there on the track, we didn't qualify great here the last time we were here, but we still finished well. It's been a pretty good track for us recently.

KASEY KAHNE (No. 9 Budweiser Dodge Charger)

YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE RACE WEEKEND AT HOMESTEAD? "I think we have a good chance to qualify well, race good on Sunday and finish the season strong. A lot of things are going to happen during the off-season. I’m not sure exactly what, so it will be good to finish strong for the team and the guys. Hopefully it carries over to next year."

Homestead Q&A: NASCAR Sprint Cup - Juan Pablo Montoya

JUAN PABLO MONTOYA, NO. 42 TARGET IMPALA SS met with media and discussed making the Chase, future goals, being the lone Hispanic driver in the sport, awareness of the Latin American community, and more.

THE MODERATOR: Juan Pablo Montoya is with us. Final race of the season. Ready to go, ready to wrap it up? A very good year for you, though.

JUAN PABLO MONTOYA: Yeah, it's been a great year. You know, I think the Chase, wanted a little more than the way we ran the first few races. But it's hard when you have three wrecks out of nine races. It's pretty hard to expect anything better.

JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE'S IMPALA SS, MARK MARTIN, NO. 5 KELLOGG'S/ CARQUEST IMPALA SS AND THEIR TEAM OWNER RICK HENDRICK were guests at a NASCAR pre-race press conference prior to the final race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

RAMSEY POSTON: Good afternoon, everyone. I'm Ramsey Poston, NASCAR's managing director of corporate communications. On behalf of the France family, everyone at NASCAR, welcome to Ford Championship Weekend, this championship contenders press conference.

Sunday history will be made. There's a good number of story lines in that regard. Jimmie Johnson could possibly make history by being the first four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion. Mark Martin could be NASCAR Sprint Cup's oldest champion. No matter what happens, Mr. Hendrick will make history. On Sunday he will tie Petty Enterprises for nine NASCAR Sprint Cup Series ownership championships. He will also be the all-time owners champion for the three national series with 12 championships.

Along with our special guests today, we have a special host. He is a broadcaster with Sirius NASCAR Radio and the Motor Racing Network. I'm proud to say he's recently dedicated his life to living shootout style, the Postman, Steve Post.

Only One Remains For Jeff Gordon

Indianapolis, California and Kansas were done in their first attempt. Michigan, Phoenix and Texas are the three that took more than 10. Now, only Homestead-Miami Speedway remains to be conquered by Jeff Gordon and Team DuPont, and they are looking to do so in the Ford 400 on Sunday in their 11th start at the 1.5-mile track.

"A win in this race would be huge for us," said Gordon, who has five topfives and eight top-10’s in 10 starts at the Florida track. "This is the last race of the season, and a win gives you confidence and bragging rights over the offseason.
