WTCC: Huff Wins Pole In Qualifying Drama

Robert Huff took pole position in a dramatic final qualifying session of the season. Andy Priaulx took second and Augusto Farfus third. Both SEAT title contenders, Yvan Muller and Gabriele Tarquini, had huge crashes in Q2 and will line up seventh and eighth respectively if their cars can be repaired.

Heavy ALMS Flavor In First List Of 2010 Le Mans Invites

Five teams and six entries from the American Le Mans Series are among the first 29 teams offered official invitations to next year’s running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. As has been the case for the last 11 seasons, all championship-winning entrants in each American Le Mans Series class receive invites to compete the following year in the world’s greatest auto race along with class winners at the annual Petit Le Mans.

Risi Competizione’s two entries and the first invite for reigning LMP1 champion Patrón Highcroft Racing lead the Series’ contingent. Not only did the trio of Jaime Melo, Pierre Kaffer and Mika Salo give Risi its second straight GT2 crown at Le Mans this year, but the trio also drove the Risi Ferrari F430 GT to a second consecutive class win at Petit Le Mans in September.

V8 Supercar: McNally Kicks Off Hometown Campaign

Hi-Tec Oils Racing’s Mark McNally began his campaign in his home event, the Bigpond 300, at the Barbagallo Raceway near Perth, Western Australia today.

McNally, who spent many years developing his craft behind the wheel of Formula Fords around the Barbagallo layout, is competing in his first V8 Supercar event at Barbagallo this weekend.

By the end of the day McNally had shaved almost a second off his time from the first session to finish with a time of 58.6752 seconds, just over half a second outside the top twenty.

WTCC: Rob Huff Conquers Pole In Chaotic Qualifying In Macau

Rob Huff emerged fastest man of the day after a chaotic qualifying in Macau, giving the Cruze its third pole of the season. The Brit, who had also set the fastest time in Free Practice 2 earlier in the day, managed to keep cool in very difficult circumstances and will have the advantage to start ahead of the field in race 1. The other two Cruzes were not that lucky: Alain Menu (9th in Q1) could not set a time on his first timed lap of Q2 as he got caught in an accident with Muller and Tarquini caused by Muller loosing control of his car due to oil on the track, while Nicola Larini finished 12th in Q1 and did not make it through to Q2 as he had to slow due to yellow flags.

The final 10 minutes of practice have proved beneficial to the IRWIN Racing team of Alex Davison, after he struggled throughout the opening two sessions at Barbagallo Raceway outside Perth.

On a track that is renowned for having low grip, the IRWIN Racing crew could not find the optimum balance in the Ford Falcon V8 Supercar.

V8 Supercar: Perkins Seventh Fastest With New Race Engineer At Barbagallo

Jack Perkins has scored his best Friday practice performance of the season with seventh fastest in final practice for the Bigpond 300 at Barbagallo Raceway in Perth, WA today.

Perkins worked well with new Race Engineer Stewart McDonald to set some fast lap times aboard the #11 BET 247 Holden Commodore, sitting as high as second on the timesheets in the final stages of practice.

McDonald joined Kelly Racing recently from Tasman Motorsport and is already finding feet in the engineering role, as shown by today’s strong performance.

Manufacturers Championship on the Line at Sandown

The Australian Manufacturers Championship goes down to the wire next weekend at Sandown International Raceway, with Lee Castle aboard the Wilson Brothers Racing Subaru WRX Sti right in the thick of the championship hunt.

Coming into the final round, Castle holds an 18 point advantage over season long combatant Rod Salmon for the prestigious John Bowe Drivers Award, with the pair split by only 12 points in the battle for Class A1 honours.

In the outright championship, Castle has his work cut out for himself to bridge a 24 point deficit to series leader Garry Holt.

WTCC: Smooth Start For The Cruzes In Cool Macau

The last event of the 2009 World Touring Car Championship in Macau started today with the traditional testing session, which allowed the Chevrolet team to initiate the work to find the best set-ups and car balance for the Cruze, which is making its debut on the streets of the former Portuguese enclave, a track particularly dear to the Chevy team.

The session, which took place in perfect but unusually cool conditions, went smoothly and without any problems for the three Cruzes, which did not look for lap performances. Rob Huff scored the third-fastest time, while Alain Menu and Nicola Larini finished the session in positions 9 and 11, respectively.
