The GP2 2009 Season Is Over, A Great Year He For Scuderia Coloni
With the three days of testing in Le Castellet, held earlier this week, the 2009 GP2 season is officially over. The F.1 feeder series won’t be back on track before February, so it’s time for everybody to assess what happened in the past months.
In Scuderia Coloni, obviously, the mood is very good: after the team went on track with the new name, precisely Scuderia Coloni, it was steadily at the top of the GP2 field.

The Englishman enjoyed a very positive test day with the Spanish Team to finish third on the time-sheets while the Belgian was eighth in the afternoon.
After suffering from engine problems during the two first test days, Fat Burner Racing Engineering had a very productive and trouble free final test day at the French track. Sam Bird and Jérôme d'Ambrosio took over duties to work on the team's test program towards the 2010 season while showing their skills at the wheel of the two red Dallara GP2 cars.

Abu Dhabi: iSport GP2 Weekend Recap
Valsecchi king of the Yas Marina Circuit as iSport sprint into early championship lead....
iSport racer Davide Valsecchi completed a near perfect point scoring weekend after finishing second in the sprint race in Abu Dhabi. After securing pole, winning the feature race and setting the fasted lap on Saturday, Valsecchi stormed through the field from eight to second and also secured fastest lap in the sprint to take a huge 19 points from Abu Dhabi and a commanding lead of the GP2 Asia Series. His iSport team mate Oliver Turvey (starting from pole), was slow away from the line in only is his second ever GP2 start and dropped to fourth and was then passed by his experienced team mate. In the late stages Turvey caught and re-passed the slower Alexander Rossi to take the chequered flag in fourth. It was an impressive first start for British driver Turvey, who missed the two day test but takes away four points in his first ever GP2 race.

Abu Dhabi: MalaysiaQI-Meritus.com GP2 Asia Sprint Race Recap
Italian Luca Filippi and Brazilian Diego Nunes had different results for their first race weekend at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi. Luca Filippi capitalised on his positive qualifying result and secured a great podium for the Malaysian motorsport ambassadors MalaysiaQI-Meritus.com in the first race of the opening round of 2009 GP2 Asia season. Diego Nunes was less fortunate as his car's drive shaft broke in the early stages.
The grid was then reversed in the top eight for the start of the 22-lap second race and Luca Filippi started from seventh position while Diego Nunes started from 24th at the back of the grid, following his retirement from race one.

Abu Dhabi: DAMS GP2 Asia Weekend Race Recap - Victory!
This weekend saw DAMS contest the first two races of the 2009/2110 GP2 Asia series which took teams to the spectacular and demanding circuit of Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi. DAMS fielded an all-new driver line-up for the occasion, with Germany's Christian Vietoris, 20, defending the team's colours alongside 21-year old Edoardo Piscopo from Italy.
The event was marked by searing heat and there wasn't a trace of rubber on the track to begin with. As a consequence, the amount of grip evolved considerably over the three day-meeting, making life particularly delicate for the engineers and drivers alike as the balance of the cars changed ceaselessly throughout the weekend.

Abu Dhabi : Premier Rendez-Vous, Premiere Victoire !

Abu Dhabi: Bridgestone GP2 Asia Weekend Recap
Davide Valsecchi (iSport) and Christian Vietoris (DAMS) took the first race wins of the 2009-2010 GP2 Asia Series at the fabulous new Abu Dhabi Grand Prix venue of Yas Marina.
For the first time the Asia Series used Bridgestone’s medium compound slick GP2 tyre produced in Bridgestone’s Technical Centre Europe in Rome, Italy. This tyre saw very hot conditions at the challenging new race venue, but the tyre performed exceptionally well, giving fast and consistent lap times and good grip levels on the new track surface.

Abu Dhabi: MalaysiaQI-Meritus.com GP2 Asia Feature Race Recap
Italian Luca Filippi and Brazilian Diego Nunes had opposite results for their first race at Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi. Luca Filippi capitalized on his positive qualifying result and finished in second position on the podium after a strong fight with Valsecchi during the 33-lap race. Diego Nunes was more unlucky as his drive shaft broke in the early stage of the race.
In qualifying the two drivers finished in fourth (Luca Filippi) and 17th (Diego Nunes). Filippi kept fourth at the start. On lap 3 Filippi had overtaken Jakes and Bird and was lapping in 1.55.210, in second position behind Valsecchi as a number of drivers behind got drive through penalties.

Abu Dhabi: Arden GP2 Asia Feature Race Recap
The result – 14th place for Rodolfo Gonzalez and a retirement for Charles Pic – might have painted a gloomy picture for Arden International after the opening round of the GP2 Asia Series in Abu Dhabi, but this was a tale of unfulfilled promise.
From sixth on the grid, Gonzalez ran fifth during the race’s early stages. He then made his mandatory tyre stop before the first of two Safety Car interruptions… and that cost him two places when drivers behind capitalised on the race’s neutralisation. Unfortunately, however, he was then given a pit speeding penalty, served immediately after the restart, and that dropped him down the order. Throughout the 33 laps, however, his lap times were encouragingly competitive.
His team-mate Charles Pic made a brilliant start, but the stewards adjudged it a little too brilliant and gave him a drive-through penalty for setting off too soon. He subsequently ran steadily in the lower midfield, just ahead of his team-mate, until the two cars collided and Charles was forced to retire with five laps to go.
