Despite the unfavourable weather (cold track and air temperatures, snow) regular Reiter driver Peter Kox (NL) was able to reel off many trouble-free kilometres with the new GT2 Gallardo. "The characteristics of the new V10 power plant really impressed me," said a delighted Peter Kox following the days testing.
Due to the lack of test kilometres completed up to now, Reiter Engineering will miss the first race this coming weekend at Barcelona with the Gallardo
LP560 GT2 and drivers by Christophe Bouchut / Albert von Thurn und Taxis. Instead, the team will take the opportunity on Monday and Tuesday of the following week to test at Paul Ricard, France during the FIA GT test days.
"It wouldn’t make any sense to contest a 1,000 kilometre race with so little experience," explained Team Boss Hans Reiter the reason for cancelling the start. "We’ll now put the new GT2 Gallardo through an extremely tough test programme before targeting a debut at the 1,000 kilometre race in Spa on the second weekend in May.
Reiter Engineering now offers a wide ranging GT programme with the Gallardo LP560. While the Lamborghini Murciélago competes in the top GT1 class, the sister Gallardo model races in the GT2 and GT3 categories.
The Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 was a great success with 49 examples produced between 2006 and 2008. The newly initiated Gallardo LP560 GT2 is not only a new project but also the 50th race Gallardo produced by Reiter Engineering.
