In his first visit to one of NASCAR’s nastiest tracks, Scott Speed shook off a spin in morning practice and finished 13th in Friday night’s Nationwide Series race at Darlington Raceway.
It seems Speed has taken a liking to the rougher rides the Nationwide Series has to offer. He also finished eighth at Bristol in March. “Definitely difficult,” he said.
After starting 24th, Speed was in the top 20 nine laps in. Red Bull Racing Team’s No. 82 pit crew churned out speedy stops all night, as Speed’s No. 99 Toyota was a lead-lap car for all 153 trips around the 1.366-mile track.
Speed’s scheduled for the next two Nationwide races — at Charlotte and Dover — and doesn’t return to the No. 99 until June 27 at New Hampshire.
