Coca-Cola and Anheuser-Busch to Expand Recycling Effort for Coca-Cola 600 Month of May at Lowe's

Coca-Cola Recycling and Anheuser-Busch Recycling have joined forces to help race fans support the environment by recycling while attending the Coca-Cola 600 Month of May races at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

The joint recycling effort is an expansion of the program Anheuser-Busch launched at the speedway last May. Almost 5,000 pounds of aluminum and plastic beverage containers were collected on speedway property during the 10-day span of events that month. An increased effort in October for the fall NASCAR races netted more than 4,000 pounds of recyclables in a four-day period. Anheuser-Busch also supplied bins to the Lowe's Motor Speedway offices for the staff to recycle year round.

"We're excited to partner with both Coca-Cola Recycling and Anheuser-Busch Recycling on this environmental initiative for the two greatest back-to-back weekends in our 50-year history next month," said Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway. "The recycling efforts that started last year with Anheuser-Busch were very successful and with Coca-Cola coming on board this year and growing the program, I expect we'll have an even greater response from our fans."

This year Coca-Cola and Anheuser-Busch have partnered to provide more than 400 recycling barrels that will be placed around the speedway's display areas, hospitality areas, concourse, infield and suites during the May race weeks to collect plastic and aluminum beverage containers. The recycling program will be in place May 15 - 24 at the 1.5-mile superspeedway for the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 (May 15); NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race (May 16); Windstream Pole Night (May 21); the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Showdown (May 22); CARQUEST Auto Parts 300 (May 23); and the Coca-Cola 600 (May 24).

"Anheuser-Busch Recycling Corporation is proud to work with LMS for the second year to recycle beverage containers that would normally end up in the landfill," said Rob Thoele, region manager for Anheuser-Busch Recycling.

"Recycling is an easy thing to do and will benefit future generations."

For the Coca-Cola 600 weekend, the Coca-Cola Recycling Education Vehicle will also be at the speedway. The 40-foot trailer features videos, games and prizes, all designed to inform and educate fans about the value of recycling in a fun and interactive setting.

"We're very happy to be extending our relationship with Lowe's Motor Speedway to a program that re-directs materials away from local landfills and into new products like bottles, shirts and other apparel," said John Burgess, president of Coca-Cola Recycling. "When we embarked on our journey to recover 100 percent of the packaging we produce, we knew that we would need to work closely with our customers and consumers. This recycling program gives NASCAR fans an opportunity to show their support for their favorite driver and for the environment, making our 'Give it Back' message more than just a slogan."

The recycling efforts of fans at Lowe's Motor Speedway during the May races will be rewarded with donations made to Speedway Children's Charities and the NASCAR Foundation.
