All-Star: Dodge NASCAR Sprint Cup Qualifying Recap, Quotes

KURT BUSCH (No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger)

Qualified 2nd HOW WAS QUALIFYING?

“It was cool. It was a great qualifying lap for our Miller Lite Dodge. I may have messed up a little bit coming into pit road by getting on the brakes a little too early. And then once I got to the first timing beacon, I wasn’t even in second gear to check my pit road speed. My pit crew did an awesome job in the pits. Our Miller Lite Taste Protector Lid car is doing pretty good so far.”

DO YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH THE SPEED OF YOUR CAR HEADING INTO TOMORROW? “I think so. The last few weeks have been tough because we’ve practiced during the day and raced at night and we’ve missed our setup a couple of times. I’m hoping that we made the right adjustments and the right calls. I think we have a fast Miller Lite Dodge. It’s going to be nice to start on the outside pole.”

KASEY KAHNE (No. 9 Budweiser Dodge Charger) Qualified 8th HOW WAS YOUR QUALIFYING LAP? “Our Budweiser Dodge was pretty good. It was just a little bit loose, but pretty good for here. I was happy. That was the kind of car I was looking for.”

IS IT TOUGH TO GET YOUR ARMS AROUND THE QUALIFYING FORMAT? “Not really. It’s actually a lot of fun to do and it’s really easy. It’s just different and exciting.”

WHAT IS THE BALANCE BETWEEN RUNNING AS HARD AS YOU CAN TOMORROW AND GETTING INFORMATION FOR THE 600 NEXT WEEK? “I think we got plenty of information during practice for next weekend. You always run as hard as you can; the only difference is that now you may put yourself in a little different position because you don’t have to worry about points.”

DAVID STREMME (No. 12 Penske Racing Dodge Charger) starts from the pole position for the Sprint All-Star Showdown Race due to rain cancelling qualifying. HOW WAS THE CAR IN PRACTICE TODAY? “Our car was pretty good in practice. For the limited amount of time we had in practice, we never did a qualifying run, so it was going to be interesting to try and qualify tonight. I think like everybody else in the garage, our car was a little tight. It’s pretty typical of how it has been here the last couple of years. Scuffed tires seem to be a little better right now. I think it’s going to be interesting how the race is going to start with guys spread out throughout the field. I think our chances of making it in (the Sprint All-Star Race) are pretty good with our starting position. Our speed is definitely in the car the last couple of weeks and we’ve had really good cars as far as I’m concerned.”

HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR CHANCES ARE TOMORROW? “I’ve been in two all-star races. My first year I remember a big wreck and the second year I remember a big wreck. I was watching last year and remember a big wreck. So within the first five laps I know that there’s going to be a big wreck, I just don’t want to be in it (smiles). I don’t think that the fastest car always wins the Showdown into the All-Star Race. You look at Kasey (Kahne) last year, he won. And Sam (Hornish Jr.) transferred in and finished seventh. With not testing here this year, it’s pretty important to work off of what we have here this week for the (Coca-Cola) 600 because of not getting a lot of practice time.”
