Mexican Clubs Bolster Lineups, Youth And Experience To Be Highlighted In Superliga 2009
Atlas, one of the most well supported teams in Mexico’s Primera Division, hopes to give its fans something to cheer for when it enters SuperLiga 2009. La Fiel (The Faithful), as Atlas fans are collectively known, are longing for a piece of silverware and SuperLiga 2009 could give the Zorros (The Foxes) confidence heading into the 2009 Apertura. Atlas, a team known for developing world class talent, including Rafael Marquez, Jared Borgetti and Oswaldo Sanchez, will turn its focus for SuperLiga 2009 to giving quality experience to a number of its young players. Atlas will look to christen St. Louis’ Hermann Field with a victory over the Kansas City Wizards on June 21 at 3:30 p.m. ET (Telefutura).

With the addition of Argentinean forward Alfredo Moreno, San Luis has bolstered their squad ahead of SuperLiga 2009. United States U-23 national team defender Michael Orozco is sure to see action against the Chicago Fire in group play of SuperLiga 2009. Orozco has appeared in 37 league matches since joining San Luis in 2006. Ignacio "Nacho" Torres will match up in the middle against Cuauhtémoc Blanco, both players are products of the Club América youth system.
In a tune up for SuperLiga 2009, Santos Laguna defeated Leones Negros of the Universidad de Guadalajara 3-0 on goals from Mexican international Matias Vuoso. Santos Laguna enters SuperLiga as one of Mexico’s rising stars in La Primera Division After coming close to relegation in 2007, the club turned things around with the signings of Mexican international goalkeeper Oswaldo Sanchez, Argentine midfielder Daniel Ludueña and Vuoso, and defeated Cruz Azul 3-2 in the 2008 Clausura tournament.
Tigres UANL will stir up the tournament as they compete for the title of SuperLiga 2009 Champions. Tigres, with a defensive squad lead by 14-year Mexican First Division veteran Javier Saavedra and rising stars José Arturo Rivas and Jesús Antonio Molina, who have become regular starters for the team. SuperLiga 2009 will also mark the return to the United States of former Chivas USA player Juan Pablo Garcia, who played in MLS in 2005 and 2006. Together with youth and experience, Tigres UANL head to The Home Depot Center to take on Chivas USA on Saturday, June 20 10:00 p.m. ET (Telefutura).
