New Jersey Sprint Series, Public Racing Under The Lights Highlight Weekend Activities at F1 New Jersey

New Jersey Motorsports Park has more events this weekend than just the South Jersey Building Trades 150 ARCA RE/MAX Series. F1 New Jersey, the world-class karting facility at New Jersey Motorsports Park, is hosting racing during the day and a unique opportunity for the public during the evening.

During the day, some of the top karting drivers in the weekend will be on hand for round four of the WKA New Jersey Sprint Series. The race is expected to attract over 230 entries among its 16 classes, and is open to all drivers with a World Karting Association (WKA) license. Racers gunning for points in the WKA championship season-long national championship will earn credit for a national win by capturing a New Jersey Sprint Series class championship.

"This series has some stiff competition, but it's not just for national racers," said John Ferris, WKA District 8 Trustee, overseeing New Jersey, Maryland and Pennsylvania. "This is a chance for racers to see how they stack up against the best without having to travel outside of their own region."

Following the racing activities on Friday and Saturday, fans can participate in F1 New Jersey's arrive-and-drive program. For $35, fans will be given a helmet, driver's suit and neck brace and have the chance to run 15 minute races in F1 New Jersey's karts. The arrive-and-drive karts are four-stroke, Honda-powered karts that reach speeds over 50 mph.

Thanks to temporary lighting, the arrive-and-drive program will run under the lights from 6 - 10 p.m., weather permitting.

The New Jersey Sprint Series will share the weekend with the ARCA RE/MAX Series, Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup, Pro-IT Series and the Tri-State Vintage Stock Car Reunion, with the cars racing on the 2.25-mile Thunderbolt Raceway at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

Practice and qualifying for the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup and Pro-IT series will begin on Friday, September 11. The first of two weekend races for each of those series, along with practice for the Vintage Stock Car Reunion, will take on Saturday, September 12. All three will race on Sunday, September 13.

The ARCA RE/MAX Series will practice and qualify on Saturday. The South Jersey Building Trades 150 will cap the weekend at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
