Area Charities, Agencies To Benefit From Gresham Motorsports Park Grand Opening

Several local charities and community agencies will be the big winners at the Gresham Motorsports Park Grand Opening free community festival this Saturday, November 7.

Multiple events at the totally refurbished Gresham Motorsports Park facility will raise funds, food and toys for several local groups that day according to GMP General Manager Dan Elliott.

"This will be a good day to show off the newly renovated Gresham Motorsports Park to the community and benefit all these local charities and agencies in the process," stated Elliott. "The opportunity to work with the local people is something we’ve been driven to do since we started this project. We’re hoping this will be the first of many events we are going to work together on."

The GMP Grand Opening event will be held in two segments. From 9 a.m.-1 p.m., area residents are invited to the free admission festival that gets underway with a Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department 3K Fun Run/Walk at 10 a.m.

The Park and Rec Department will also hold a Punt, Pass and Kick Competition beginning at 11 a.m. and the Jackson County Cheerleading Championship ‘Cheer Off’ at 11:45 a.m.

Those wishing to participate in the 3K Fun Run/Walk or to register for the Punt, Pass and Kick competition should contact the Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department at 706-367-6350 or www.jacksoncountygov.com. On-site registration starts at 9 a.m. with the Fun Run/Walk on the all new GMP oval taking the green flag at 10 a.m.

There is a $10 registration fee for the Fun Run/Walk and participants will receive an event T-Shirt. Proceeds from the Fun Run/Walk will be donated to the Jackson County Boys and Girls Club. The Punt, Pass and Kick Competition is free-of-charge and open to boys and girls ages 7 to 14.

Funopolis Family Fun Center will bring its Holiday Food and Fun Drive to the GMP Grand Opening event. Area residents attending the festival are urged to bring three (3) canned food items or a new toy (valued at $3 or more) and they will receive a $5 Funopolis Game Card in return (one per person, please).

The food items and toys collected at the Gresham Motorsports Park Grand Opening – along with those received by the Commerce, GA family activity center throughout the months of October and November – will be donated to the Jackson County Family Connection to those in need during the holidays.

Live music by Scarlet Stitch, vintage race cars and other displays featuring local/county vendors and businesses will also highlight the GMP Grand Opening morning activities.

The second portion of the Gresham Motorsports Park Grand Opening event will be an INEX/600 Racing Series test. The test will mark the first-ever appearance of the Legends, Bandoleros and Thunder Cars on the GMP quarter- and half-mile tracks. Fans will not be permitted in the infield garage area during the test because of insurance regulations, but are invited to view the test free-of-charge from the all-new GMP grandstand.

"This is an excellent opportunity for the community to come out and benefit others among us who need our help," said Elliott. "Also, I can’t wait to see the look on people’s faces when they come out here and see what we’ve done. It’s nothing like the old place. We’re so excited to be a part of the community and I think people are going to see that when they get here and check out the facility this Saturday."

Gresham Motorsports Park will reopen after a 10-month total renovation with the 26th-Annual World Crown 300 November 13-15. The three-day racing spectacular will open Friday, November 13 with the first-ever appearance of the INEX/600 Racing Series Legends, Bandoleros and Thunder Cars.

Tickets for this inaugural GMP INEX/600 Racing Series event are just $10 for adults.

Saturday’s World Crown 300 action will feature main events in the Iceman Late Models, Mini-Stocks, Trucks and Renegades (Street Stocks) divisions as well as a 5:30 p.m. Late Model qualifying session to see who will sit on the pole for Sunday’s World Crown 300. That event will feature a pre-race gala ribbon cutting, dedication, live music and driver introductions before the green flag waves at 2 p.m. Eastern Time.
