LA Galaxy To Host Houston Dynamo In Western Conference Championship

The LA Galaxy will host the Houston Dynamo in the single-game Western Conference Championship on Friday, November 13 at The Home Depot Center. This game will kick off at 8 p.m. (PT), with ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes covering all the action live nationally.

With their 1-0 victory over Chivas USA on Sunday evening, the Galaxy won their two-game Western Conference Semifinal Series with Chivas USA by the score of 3-2 on aggregate. The Galaxy are now 4-2-2 in Conference Semifinal Series under the current format, advancing to the Western Conference Championship in 2004, 2005 and 2009.

This will be the first ever postseason meeting between the Galaxy and the Dynamo, who advanced to the Conference Championship with a 1-0 aggregate goal series win over Seattle Sounders FC. After a 0-0 draw in Game #1, the Dynamo defeated the Sounders 1-0 in extra time, earlier today, thanks a Brian Ching goal in the 96th minute. The Galaxy won the regular season series against the Dynamo, beating them 1-0 at The Home Depot Center on June 28 and playing to a 0-0 draw in Houston on October 18.

As the #1 seed in the Western Conference, the Galaxy have home field advantage for the game, meaning that they will host the Conference Championship at The Home Depot Center for the first time ever. The winner of this game will advance to MLS Cup 2009, which will be held on Sunday, November 22, at Qwest Field in Seattle, Wash.

One of most successful playoff teams in MLS history, the Galaxy have registered a record of 27-15-5 since the league began, including five MLS Cup finals in 11 MLS Cup Playoff appearances. Los Angeles boasts two MLS Cup Championships in club history, winning the League title in 2002 and 2005 with both coming in 1-0 extra time wins over the New England Revolution. In addition, LA have also appeared in five MLS Cup finals matches, including the first championship match ever in 1996, against D.C. United. The club’s other appearances in the championship match were in 1999 and 2001.

Tickets are now available for the Western Conference Championship on Friday, November 13 against the Dynamo at 8 p.m. (PT) at The Home Depot Center. Playoff ticket prices are the same as regular season prices, meaning that tickets start at just $24 for the club's first Western Conference Championship game since the 2005 MLS Cup.
