Red Angus, Cook And Mini Challenge: A Combination Well Done

Bargwanna Motorsport will welcome premium, boutique beer brand – Red Angus Pilsener – as primary sponsor aboard BJ Cook’s car for the last two MINI Challenge events of the season at Barbagallo Raceway in Perth and the Sydney Telstra 500 in Homebush.

The two events will include live and exclusive television coverage as part of the Seven Network’s V8 Supercars package.

Produced by the William Bull Brewery, near Griffith in NSW and falling under the De Bortoli family umbrella, Red Angus Pilsener has built a reputation as one of Australia’s finest boutique beers since its launch in late 2007.

Neal Cameron – Head Brewer of Red Angus Pilsener at William Bull Brewery – is aiming to bring the product to an audience that may not have been exposed to it in the past:

"MINI Challenge is a fantastic way of broadening the appeal of Red Angus, not just among fans of the Series, but also V8 Supercar fans that may not have seen our brand previously," Neal said. "Perth – and in particular – Sydney are key markets for the brand and we’re incredibly excited to be represented at the Sydney Telstra 500.

"It is going to be one huge event for Sydney and we can’t wait to get out to Homebush and see the Red Angus MINI in competition."

Team Principal, Jason Bargwanna is very pleased to be welcoming Red Angus to his team:

"It’s another new sponsor to our team that is dipping its toe into the motorsport pool," the livewire V8 Supercar driver said. "With the entire roster on board our MINI Challenge team – from ROCK Energy Drinks, to Thermaline and Matchmaster TV Reception Systems, they are all new to the sport and we’re happy to welcome Red Angus Pilsener into that group."

Red Angus’ market segment closely mirrors that of a MINI driver, according to driver – BJ Cook.

"A MINI driver is generally discerning about the products they eat and drink," he said. "The demographics between MINI Challenge and Red Angus Pilsener are very much alike and the marriage between the two, I think, will work well. We’re hoping to represent the brand as best as possible on track and deliver great mileage for the company."

Another attraction for Red Angus was the opportunity to be associated with Bargwanna – driver of the Sprint Gas Racing #3 and one of the most popular personalities in V8 Supercars.

"Jason has huge cut through with the V8 Supercar fans and to have an association with him is a further attraction for us," Neal said. "He’s certainly a Red Angus man."

Unlike most beers, Red Angus undergoes an intensive eight week brew process, using five different grains from Australia and Germany. The hops which add to the intense flavour of the brew come from the Czech Republic, Germany and New Zealand.

The William Bull Brewery was built at a cost of over $2 million, with assistance from the New South Wales Department for State and Regional Development, which recognised the contribution its establishment would make to Griffith and surrounding regions.

MINI Challenge is bringing to a close its second season in Australia. The Series is fully backed by MINI in Australia (BMW Group Australia) and utilises identical MINI John Cooper Works Challenge racecars. They reach a top speed of 240kph from the 1.6 litre twin-scroll turbocharged motors.
