WTCC Champion Yvan Muller To Race For Chevrolet In 2010

Last year’s WTCC Champion Yvan Muller will drive a Chevrolet Cruze in the 2010 World Touring Car Championship. The announcement that the French driver will join the Chevrolet WTCC team was made today in Macau after the final round of the 2009 season.

Yvan Muller, 40, from Altkirch (Alsace), is one of the most successful and reputed drivers in the touring car scene, having won the WTCC title in 2008 and been a runner-up in the series this year and in 2007. In his career, he has also conquered other significant touring car titles, including the French Super Tourisme in 1995 and the BTCC in 2003. In total, Yvan claims 56 wins in international touring car series since 1994.

The presence of Yvan Muller, alongside Alain Menu and Rob Huff, in the 2010 driver line-up, represents a significant strengthening of the Chevrolet team and underlines the commitment of Chevrolet to the WTCC.

QUOTES

Yvan Muller: "I am delighted to join Chevrolet for the next season. After four successful and exciting years with SEAT, I was looking for a new challenge and Chevrolet was clearly my first choice. Having witnessed in first person the impressive growth of Chevrolet in the WTCC and knowing RML since my years in the BTCC, I am extremely confident in the potential of the Cruze and the Chevrolet team. My objective is to contribute to the further progression of Chevrolet and I am sure that together with Alain, Rob and the entire Chevrolet team, we can achieve great things and aspire to the highest objectives".

Ray Mallock: "Our signing of Yvan confirms our commitment to winning this championship. As everyone in the pit lane knows, our first priority regarding our drivers is that they work together as a team to deliver the best results for Chevrolet. Yvan has proven himself in this respect and his track record speaks for itself. He has been a respected competitor of RML since the mid-90s and stands as one of the touring car greats, combining winning race skills with a fair and professional approach to other competitors on track".

Eric Nève: "We could not dream of a better addition to our team than Yvan Muller, a driver who has proven many times how competitive and effective he can be. After five years with the same driver line-up, we felt the need to give some new momentum to our team and I am sure that Yvan represents the best injection of fresh blood, new ideas and renewed enthusiasm to our squad".

Wayne Brannon: "To be able to secure the services of a World Champion such as Yvan Muller is a valuable plus to our WTCC programme. I am convinced that Yvan will contribute a lot to the development of the Cruze and that his personality matches perfectly the Chevrolet spirit, and I wish to extend him the warmest welcome to the Chevrolet family".
