Vodka O Australian GT Championship Finale At New Sydney Olympic Park Circuit

The 2009 Vodka O Australian GT Championship season is to reach its dramatic conclusion at the new Sydney Olympic Park street circuit with David Wall in the PR Technology Racing Porsche GT3 997 Cup S poised to take the title this weekend (December 4-6).

With one hand on the crown it will be the first time in the past four seasons that the German marque has had victory in the Championship with Mark Eddy (Lamborghini Gallardo), Allan Simonsen (Ferrari 430), and Greg Crick (Dodge Viper ACR) taking the titles in 2008, 2007, and 2006 respectively.

Bryce Washington won the inaugural Australian GT title in 2005 in a Porsche 996.

The Wall family is also set to claim what may well be a unique honour with father and son taking two Australian national championships in the one year - David’s father Des having won the 2009 Australian Sports Sedan title.

Behind Wall, the chase for final ranking in the GT Championship category is a close affair with James Koundouris in the Supabarn Supermarkets Porsche Cup S, Jim Richards (Shannons Insurance Porsche GT3 997 Cup Car), Ross Lilley (Laminex Dodge Viper GT3) and Dean Grant (Vodka O Lamborghini Gallardo GT3) keen for strong results at Sydney before they drop their worst round results.

Twenty GT Championship cars have nominated for the Homebush event including Shane Smollen making his GT debut in the ex James Koundouris Porsche 997 Cup car backed by McGrath Estate Agents and Dave Stevens making a return in the Brennan Voice Data & IT Ferrari 430.

The formidable Championship field also includes three Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 models for Mark Eddy, Dean Grant, and Ted Huglin, two Dodge Viper GT3’s for Ross Lilley and Ian Palmer, the Aston Martin DBRS9 GT3 of Tony Quinn, and the Lotus Exige GT3 of Angelo Lazaris, together with a single Mosler MT900 GT3 entry for Andrew McPherson.

Porsche competitors in the GT Championship division number eleven with new Cup S models for both Theo Koundouris and Max Twigg.

Points leader in the GT Challenge title chase, Jordan Ormsby (Golf Car Solutions/Adelaide Shores Porsche GT3 996 RS) will also face tough opposition from the Porsche GT3 996 Cup Car brigade including Michael Loccisano (Hallmarc Developments), Richard Kimber (PR Technology Racing) and a returning Eric Bana (Pick Up Truck Pictures), while Paul Tresidder will compete again in the Wall family owned Porsche GT3 996 RSR supported by Pelorus Property Group/Bakehouse Quarter.

Keith Wong in his ULX-110 Proven Custom Blend Oils Ferrari 360 Challenge also makes a return to the GT Challenge ranks.

Mark O’Connor (SMS Commander Lotus Exige S) will continue his points battle in GT Production against fellow Lotus Exige S driver Tim Poulton (Maurice Lacroix, Byron Bay Premium Ale) with Tony Alford in the Donut King Racing Nissan GTR R35, and Paul Freestone’s Corvette Z06 backed by Freestones Transport.

The Sydney Olympic Park circuit is 3.4 kilometres in length and is run in an anti-clockwise direction.
