Statement Regarding IMSA Rolex 24 Drive-Time Penalty

The No. 10 Konica Minolta Corvette DP for Wayne Taylor Racing was penalized by the Tudor United SportsCar Championship sanctioning body IMSA for exceeding a maximum drive-time limit during the latter stages of the Jan. 24-25 Rolex 24 At Daytona. Co-drivers Max Angelelli, Ricky Taylor and Jordan Taylor finished third after giving up second place via a driver change and subsequent stop-and-go penalty for entering a closed pit lane in the attempt to rectify the situation just prior to a restart with seven minutes remaining. It was discovered that Jordan Taylor had surpassed the maximum four-hour drive-time limit. The team was credited with a 16th-place finish – the final position in the Prototype-class running order – and credited with 16th-place championship points.

2015 Daytona 24: Action Express Racing Teams Overcome Adversity, Score Podium Finish And Top Five

Action Express Racing never stopped performing like a winning organization in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, even as both of their teams faced early setbacks in the 24-hour race. Following four strong practice sessions and impressive starting positions, the No. 5 Mustang Sampling Chevrolet Corvette Daytona Prototype and the No. 31 Whelen/Team Fox Chevrolet Corvette Daytona Prototype both were forced to visit the garage early in the event, both going multiple laps down during repairs. However, both teams returned to the track faster and more determined than ever, completing the endurance race with two top-five finishes in the Prototype class. While the No. 31 Whelen/Team Fox fought back from the 51st position to finish seventh overall and fifth in class, the No. 5 Chevrolet Corvette drivers raced their way back onto the lead lap and into the second position, earning Mustang Sampling their first podium finish as a TUDOR United SportsCar Championship sponsor.

To be here as many years as I’ve been coming here, to win this race that many times in class, then overall (five times, tied for the most), it’s a special place. It’s magical. If we could bring our Ford EcoBoost to victory lane on Sunday afternoon, it would be incredibly special for me.”

Rules prohibit one driver being behind the wheel for more than four hours in a six-hour period, so with just 10 minutes to go, the team had to pit for an unplanned driver change.
