Buemi Wins Title After Controversial Finale

Sebastien Buemi is the new FIA Formula E champion after clinching the title courtesy of setting the Visa Fastest Lap during the season-ending Visa London ePrix.

The final race of the 2015/16 season was a controversial affair, brought about by title rivals Buemi and Lucas di Grassi colliding on the opening lap of the race. Buemi made a slow start from pole, and was rear-ended by di Grassi under braking for Turn 3.

The incident took the rear wing off Buemiís Renault e.dams entry, while there was significant front end damage to the Abt Schaeffler car of di Grassi. Both drivers limped back to the pits so that they could switch to their second car.

With two points on offer for the Visa Fastest Lap and both drivers tied on points, the championship now boiled down to a fight over who could be quickest over a flying lap. Both drivers - and Stephane Sarrazin - were awarded FanBoost, but the rules state that this power boost cannot be used to claim the bonus points.

Prost Wins In Style As Di Grassi Inches Closer To Title

Nico Prost scored his second FIA Formula E Championship win in style at the Visa London ePrix, but it was the action that played out behind him that captured the imagination of the enthusiastic crowd in the penultimate race of the season.

Prost drove a faultless race, leading away from pole, establishing a commanding lead before easily defending it when a late-race Qualcomm Safety Car period closed up the pack. It was his first win of the season, in fact his first since Miami in season one. But it was a stunning performance nevertheless.

"Itís been an up and down year for me, so itís really nice," said Prost. "I was very confident coming here as in the last few races weíve been very competitive and to be honest the team gave me a fantastic car all day long. Itís the kind of race you want to have. When I see Brunoís helmet in the pitlane I get goosebumps. Itís really nice, heís a friend and itís nice to be on the podium with him here."

In second place Bruno Senna gave the headline writers plenty of ammunition by delivering his best performance to date, and securing second place for Mahindra Racing sealing the first Prost/Senna podium in Britain since Donington, 1993. While he was never really close enough to challenge Prost, equally he was never really under threat from behind, and duly delivered his first podium finish.

From Hong Kong To New York; Five New Cities For The Third Formula E Season

The 2016/17 FIA Formula E Championship calendar was announced today, having been approved by the FIA World Motor Sport Council by an e-vote.

The calendar features 14 races, to be staged in 12 of the worldís leading cities, with double-headers in Montreal and New York. In addition to the ePrix, there will be a special event, the FIA Electric Mobility Forum, which will take place in Las Vegas on January 7.

"Formula E is all about showcasing fully-electric racing together with the most iconic landmarks in the world - and the calendar for next season certainly matches our ambitions," said Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag. "Itís fantastic to be able to bring Formula E to new markets, but more importantly to new fans. It will be great to finish the third season in New York, pending the approval of all the relevant stakeholders. The growth and interest in the sport has been on an upward trend since the very beginning, and Iím sure that the third season of the FIA Formula E Championship will once again prove to be a thrilling spectacle."

Ten Teams Entered For The 2016/17 FIA Formula E Championship

Today, the FIA released the names of the 10 teams entered to take part in the third season of the FIA Formula E Championship, which gets underway in Hong Kong on October 9.

Eight of the 10 teams have been involved right from the very beginning of the worldís first fully-electric single-seater series, even if some have undergone a name change since then. The new entries come courtesy of Jaguar, the company choosing Formula E to mark its return to motorsport after an absence of over a decade, and the Chinese Techeetah team, that took over Team Aguriís entry and is owned by China Media Capital, a public equity and venture capital firm based in Shanghai. Another new name is that of Faraday Future, an advanced mobility company with headquarters in Silicon Valley and Southern California (USA), which has entered into a new technological partnership with Dragon Racing.

Di Grassi Triumphant In Paris

Lucas di Grassi has extended his lead in the FIA Formula E Championship with a flawless drive in the Visa Paris ePrix.

The Abt Schaeffler driver sprung off the line to take the lead at the start. Aside from two laps during the car swap pitstop phase, he led the entire way. The sell-out event crowd of 20,000 - which included France Prime Minister Manuel Valls, Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris, Rachida Dati, Mayor of the 7th Arrondissement and FIA President Jean Todt - was denied the grandstand finish the race deserved when series debutant Ma Qing Hua crashed heavily in the closing stages.

The Chinese racer was unhurt, but the Team Aguri car was buried against the wall and the Qualcomm Safety Car was deployed. With only five laps left, the race finished under yellow flags, and di Grassiís third win of the season was assured.

"I think it was the most perfect start we had so far," he said. "Sam had a lot of wheelspin and I just managed to avoid getting any. Jean-Eric also had a very good start and I was looking in my mirrors to make sure that he didnít get room on the inside. From then onwards I was pushing really hard, even after the Full Course Yellow. After the pitstop, on the cold tyres the car was just sliding for two laps as I tried to build up the temperatures and he caught up a bit. To see people all around the track cheering, on the inside of the track and the outsideÖ itís just amazing what was done here today and I hope we race here many more times and in more cities like Paris. This is what Formula E is about."

FIA Formula E - Long Beach ePrix - Finish

Sam Bird clinches pole position but finishes sixth for DS Virgin Racing in Long Beach ePrix after contact with a tyre wall ruins chance of victory.

Starting from pole position, Bird maintained his lead over second placed Lucas Di Grassi for the first part of the race. Di Grassi finally managed to pass on lap 12, leaving a determined Bird hot on his tail for the remainder of the first stint. After a clean car changeover, Sam emerged just behind Lucas again, and the battle for the lead of the race continued. However, on lap 23 the battle for first place came to a dramatic end - a minor error saw Bird lock up his brakes and skid into a tyre wall at turn five. Whilst there was only minor damage to the car, Bird lost 5 places, and his chance of victory.
