Michela Cerruti Takes Fourth Place In Auto GP Opener At Marrakech

It’s been a positive weekend for Michela Cerruti at Marrakech, as the Italian female racer lined-up for the opening round of the 2014 Auto GP Series. Fielded by Super Nova, Michela proved quick and consistent since the first practice. Unfortunately, she was held up by a slowing car on her late flyer and forced to settle for 9th on the grid. Despite the starting position, “Miki” recovered up to fourth place, and without a safety-car procedure glitch, she could have even fought for the podium. The bitter note did not affect the positive outcome for the day.

Dams, WSR, Round 1, Monza

This weekend Carlos Sainz Jr, son of the former rally world champion, demonstrated that he has a strong character in addition to his sheer speed. He quickly got over his crushing disappointment in the first heat when he was sidelined by an electronic problem that prevented him from starting from thepole position of the grid. He put on a masterly demonstration on Sunday morning by clinching his second pole of the weekend, which he converted into a dominant victory finishing more than 10 seconds in front of the second-placed driver. Thus, the 2014 season has got off to a great start for DAMS, but with one small hiccup: Norman Nato's failure to score points despite his fighting spirit.

Avf Just Shy Of The Top Ten In Monza Race 2

In a sunny and warm Monza, the track that has played host to the opening act of the 2014 F.Renault 3.5 championship, AVF kept performing well for the third day in a row. On the last day of running, that in traditional WSR fashion hosted Qualifying 2 and Race 2, the Spanish team once more showed good competitiveness, missing a top ten finish only because of an unfortunate contact that hampered Zoel Amberg towards half-race. After taking P12 in Qualifying, the Swiss talent had managed to hold on to his position at the start and in the early part of the race, keeping at bay a very aggressive Merhi who was putting pressure on him from behind. Unluckily, one of the Spaniard's attacks ended up in a contact at the first chicane, a light clash that damaged Zoel's underfloor enough to compromise the balance of his car. In such conditions, Amberg couldn't do more than cruise to the end of the race, losing only one place to cross the line in 13th place.

Zeta Corse Complete FRenault 3.5 Opener With A Points Finish

After yesterday's amazing podium finish with Roberto Merhi, Zeta Corse kept momentum and closed the F.Renault 3.5 opening weekend in Monza with another troublefree performance that was worth a few points. A very hard fought qualifying session in the morning, with 14 drivers packed in less than one second, saw Mehri post the seventh quickest time and hence line-up on fourth row. As the starting lights went out, Roberto's getaway was good but the early part of the Spaniard's race was filled with odds: first he had to avoid Pietro Fantin's nearly stalled car, hence losing a couple of places, and then on lap 2 he lost even more time when the anti-stall system of his car kicked-in with no reason. After dropping as low as P12, Mehri boasted a masterful drive that led him to a stunning recovery: first he passed Amberg for P11 after a fierce fight, and then he chased Stevens and Buller who were just a few seconds away. As the British duo lost time fighting for position, Roberto closed the gap quickly and passed both, then setting his sight on Fantin, who was five seconds ahead. Making the most of his car's superior pace Merhi managed to get right on the Brazilian's tale, but he didn't have the time for a successful passing move and crossed the flag in seventh position.

Bittersweet Day For Draco Racing In Monza

Draco Racing experienced a bittersweet day in Monza. On the Italian track, that played host to the F.Renault 3.5 season opener, the Brazilian team passed from the excitement for a great result in Qualifying, with rookie Luca Ghiotto a brilliant third, to the disappointment for an unlucky race that saw both cars end far from the points. Ghiotto, after his excellent performance in the morning timed session, had a slow start and lost three places. After fighting for P5 in the early part of the race, he went off track at the first Lesmo corner and rejoined in P17 after losing a lot of time to get out of the gravel bed. He then stopped in the pits for a quick front tyre change, and took the flag in sixteenth place.

Scary Crash Ends I.S.R.'s Podium Hopes In Monza Season Opener

Some scratches on Jazeman Jaafar's car are all ISR took home from the first race of the F.Renault 3.5 season in Monza. After starting the weekend on a high with very good laptimes in yesterday's Practices the team had high expectations for today but things didn't go to plan. The morning qualifying session saw Jazeman secure P9 on the grid, a spot that due to traffic and a couple of driving mistakes didn't reflect the Malaysian's true potential. Monza providing plenty of overtaking spots, the team was still confident that a podium result was possible in Race 1, but Lady Luck had something different in store for the outfit owned by Igor Salaquarda: after a good start and an amazing first lap that had allowed him to gain one spot on Buller, Jafaar rocketed alongside Marco Sorensen on the start/finish straight just to see the Dane turn on his front left wheel, get airborne and at the same time send ISR's car in a wild spin. Luckily both drivers emerged unscathed from the crash, but considering that the contact happened at a speed well over 250 kph, that was a very lucky outcome.

The opening race of the 2014 Auto GP season featured a spectacular win by Kimiya Sato (Euronova Racing) at Marrakech in Morocco. The Japanese racer, who ended as the series' runner-up in 2013 and is currently committed to a season in GP2, won what turned out to be an elimination race in front of first-time podium runners Michele La Rosa (MLR71 by Euronova) and Giuseppe Cipriani (Ibiza Racing Team). At the start, Markus Pommer (Super Nova), who was taking-off from the front row, stalled and let Eurotech's Kevin Giovesi go from the pole. Zele Racing's Tamas Pal Kiss and Sergio Campana were second and third from Sato, Andrea Roda (Virtuosi UK) and La Rosa.

Zeta Corse And Merhi Take Second Place In Monza Season Opener

Zeta Corse couldn't have hoped for a better start to their 2014 F.Renault 3.5 campaign. In Monza, the track that is playing host to the WSR season opener, the Russian team made the headlines with a staggering performance from Roberto Merhi who clinched a well deserved second place finish. After securing 5th place on the grid with a very good drive in the morning qualifying session, the Spaniard did even better in Race 1: a perfect start allowed him to overtake three cars straight after the lights went off, and then in the first couple of laps he easily fended off some aggressive attacks from Gasly, who was trying to put pressure on him from behind. Thanks to a pace that was consistently better than the Frenchman's, Roberto managed to open a gap and stretch it lap after lap, taking the flag in P2 with a safe 6" advantage on the third classified car.
