NHRA: Houston Raceway Park Supports Move Back To Quarter-Mile Drag Racing
The general manager of Houston Raceway Park, Seth Angel, is hearing a clear message from his customers -- "Give us back the quarter mile!"
"The quarter-mile distance is a big part of the sport of drag racing," Angel said. "We're gearing up for the 23rd annual O’Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals and I've been jumping in and helping our staff with ticket sales over the phone and I can say without question that our fans want the NHRA to return to the quarter-mile. They tell us this over and over again.

NHRA: Shields, Martel Take Sportsman Wins In Gatornationals
Duane Shields said his car’s consistent performance was the key to his taking the Top Alcohol Dragster victory in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series portion of the Tire Kingdom Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway.
Shields and Arnie Martel took victories in the sportsman ranks during the NHRA Tire Kingdom Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway and both raced on Goodyear tires.

NHRA: Goodyear-Shod Drivers Collect Five Gatornationals Wins
First it was wet, then it was fast.
Cars racing on Goodyear tires won five categories and set records at the NHRA’s Tire Kingdom Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway. The event was slowed by two days of heavy rain but once the sun came out on Saturday, the pace was stunning.

NHRA: The Champ Is Back! Schumacher Grabs First Win Of The Season And Points Lead In Gainesville
It only took three races, one No. 1 qualifier, seven round wins and a Wally at the third race of the season, but seven-time and defending Top Fuel world champion Tony Schumacher took the points lead with his win at the Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals this past week at Gainesville Raceway in Florida.

NHRA: McMillen's Best Can't Upset Schumacher's Record-Setting Weekend
For the third time in as many races Terry McMillen and his Amalie Oil Top Fuel Dragster faced the event winner or runner-up in the first round of competition. McMillen would lower his career best elapsed time to 3.865 seconds in a losing effort to Tony Schumacher's 3.818 seconds at 320.81 mph. Schumacher would go on to win the event and reset the national speed record for 1000ft racing in Top Fuel.

O'Reilly Auto Parts and zMAX Dragway are revving up the savings for the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals, March 25-28. Fans can save eight dollars on $45 tickets for Saturday and Sunday, resulting in a final purchase price of $37 per ticket.

NHRA: Lang Races To Victory In First NHRA Pro Mod Series Event
Canadian flags waved in the grandstands at historic Gainesville Raceway Sunday as Manitoba’s Kenny Lang made drag racing history as the first to win a Wally in the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Series.
Lang became the first winner in NHRA’s newest national touring series as he drove his green 1953 Corvette to victory over Sweden’s Michael Gullqvist, who drove the ProCareRX 1968 Camaro owned by series supporter Roger Burgess.

NHRA: Two Semifinal Berths For Lucas Oil Team
Team Lucas Oil Top Fuel driver Shawn Langdon and Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Hector Arana both earned semifinal berths at the 41st annual Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals on Sunday.
The event at Gainesville Raceway was the season opener for the motorcycle class, and Arana, who won the 2009 bike title, was honored during prerace ceremonies. Arana took one step better by bestowing a championship ring and leather jacket to Lucas Oil founder, Forrest Lucas.

NHRA: Pro Mod's Burgess Unhurt, But Eliminated By Contact With Wall
Pro Mod racer Roger Burgess emerged unscathed from a brush with the retaining wall of Gainesville Raceway Sunday in the second round of the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Drag Racing Series. The accident eliminated Burgess from competition as, by rule, the wall is considered out of bounds.
"That's the first time I've been that far out of shape," Burgess said. "But you know how it is -- you always press a little too hard trying to win the round. If I had it to do over again, I would have done the same thing. Sometimes you think you can drive through it and you try. That time I couldn't.
