MX-GP: Brazilian Grand Prix Next As Monster Energy Yamaha Maintain Ranks

Monster Energy Yamaha will hope to feed off the positive results posted by David Philippaerts and Christophe Charlier at the Grand Prix of Mexico last weekend as they head to Beto Carrero in Brazil for round five of the FIM Motocross World Championship on Sunday.

Philippaerts returned to the podium for the first time since the Grand Prix of Spain last year and gave the factory team their first ’25 points’ of the season after an thrilling second moto chase at Guadalajara. The Italian is fit and confident ahead of the second South American event and returns to Brazil with the memory of his GP victory at Indaiatuba in 2011 and his runner-up finish at Campo Grande in 2010. ‘DP’ will be joined again by Steven Frossard. The Frenchman pulled out of the Mexican race last Saturday but his right knee has been feeling much better during the week and he will attempt a run at the Beto Carrero layout on Saturday before assessing his race potential. Monster Energy Yamaha’s MX1 line-up should also count on Shaun Simpson. The Scot has been feeling fine through the past few days after suffering a brief left shoulder dislocation last Sunday. The former British Champion will try to tackle the Grand Prix on his YZ450FM.

In the MX2 category Charlier comes to the coastal Santa Catarina region buoyant after good speed in Mexico delivered his best overall finish to-date with fifth position and the Frenchman is establishing a good base of results from which to progress. Also determined to make an impression at round five is Michael Leib. The American will make his fourth appearance on the YZ250F despite dislocating two fingers during the first moto in Mexico.

The Grand Prix of Brazil will finish the two week South American phase of the championship.
