2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Points Standings - After New Hampshire

The 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup season rolls on as race 19 of 36 has been completed following the 20th Annual LENOX Industrial Tools 301. There was no change in the top four positions in the race for the 'Chase", Matt Kenseth continues to lead the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship with Dale Earnhardt Jr. in second position.
Greg Biffle and Jimmie Johnson are third and fourth respectively with Denny Hamlin moving into the top-five by leap frogging Kevin Harvick.
Overall, Tony Stewart and Brad Keselowski have the most wins with three. Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin are the only other multi-race winners in the top-ten - two each.
However, Kasey Kahne was victorious on Sunday, and now leads the wildcard race with two wins. Kyle Busch would make the 'Chase' if the points were finalized today.
Kevin Harvick and Martin Truex Jr are ranked sixth and 8th respectively, but each are winless and would be vulnerable if they slip out of the top-ten.
During the 2012 season, 75 drivers have scored points. The NASCAR Sprint Cup points standings are as follows:
2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Chase system
1. 12 drivers make the "Chase".
2. Top Ten in automatically and seeded based on wins (2000 points plus 3 points for each win).
3. Two "wild card" positions based on wins through first 26 races (Richmond) - driver must be in top 20 to qualify. No points for wins. Ties are broken by points position, then by second place finishes, third, and so on.
2012 NASCAR points system
1. Race winners will earn 43 points, plus three bonus points for the win. Minus one point for each following position - 43rd gets one point.
2. Bonus points: Lead a lap & Leading the most laps.
3. Maximum of 48 points each weekend.
Note: NASCAR Camping World Truck Series - last-place finisher receives eight points (36-driver race field).
Drivers may only collect points in one race series.
