2012 NHRA: A Good Run On Race Day In Denver Encourages Big O Tires Service Central Driver Shane Gray
The Gray Motorsports crew are never fond of a first-round loss, but tackling the incredibly unique high-altitude conditions at Bandimere Speedway this weekend, as well as overcoming the challenge of a brand new engine combination at the 33rd annual Mopar Mile-High Nationals, gave them a surge of inspiration as the Full Throttle Series tour prepares to depart the Denver area.

Gray's Big O Tires/Service Central Racing Camaro picked up the pace throughout the weekend, beginning with a 7.11 pass in the first session on Friday and ending with a strong and significantly improved 7.02 on raceday.
The Denver, N.C.-based second-generation driver qualified in the No. 13 position for a first-round meeting with Ron Krisher. The two were nearly identical at the tree – Gray was .001-second quicker – but at the top end it was his opponent who was awarded the victory with a 6.97 at 197 mph to his 7.02, 196.
"I'm really disappointed in myself for not having a better light, because as a driver you always want to do your best. I should have been in the teens or twenties," said Gray, who was .048 to Krisher's .049 in terms of reaction time.
"But our Big O Tires/Service Central Chevy Camaro is really coming around, and that gives me something good to think about. We put her through the ringer here this weekend, but she got quicker and quicker. That has to put a smile on your face, at least a little bit."
Crew chief Justin Elkes said, "That run was huge. We made great strides here, especially in that right lane that gave so many people problems. We tried so many things this weekend that we really feel like we made progress, and we can't wait to get to Sonoma. We won't have to wait long."
The Full Throttle Series travels to Northern California for the next event on the tour, the Sonoma NHRA Nationals in Sonoma, July 27-29.
