2012 Richmond II: Danica Patrick NASCAR Nationwide Race Preview

Cole Whitt

“I like short-track racing because I grew up racing smaller dirt tracks. Personally, I really enjoy the speeds of the mile-and-a-half tracks, but seeing a short track on the schedule is a nice change of pace.

“I’m looking forward to Richmond, mainly be-cause I want another shot at a decent finish there. We had a much better car than where we finished in the spring. We really hurt ourselves towards the end of that one. Bruce and the guys did a good job prepar-ing a top-10 car, and that’s where we ran the entire night, but I missed pit road. Then I tried to make up for it once we got on pit road and we were hit with a speeding penalty. Things went from bad to worse, so I really want a chance to redeem myself and get the team the type of finish they deserve. This is a great opportunity for us to keep building on another solid finish.”

Danica Patrick
GoDaddy.com Chevrolet

“When you’re going from practice in the daytime to rac-ing at night the most important thing is finding balance in the car, especially front to rear when it’s slippery. Then hopefully that balance will translate into the evening. I’ve heard that the balance doesn’t shift too much from day to night. So we’ll work to achieve that.”

Tony Eury Jr., crew chief “Right now Danica is at the point where she understands how the races are going to play out. She knows what kind of car she needs and knows you have to start off a little free to be there at the end. We’re at the point where if we had one more year, I think you’d see some top-fives and wins. She is still learning every week, learn-ing something new. It’s just a matter of putting every-thing together. Plus, you’ve got to remember this is really her first fulltime season running stock cars.”

Notes

JR MOTORSPORTS TO MAKE 400TH START THIS WEEKEND - JRM will make its 400th start this weekend at Richmond International Raceway. Since the company’s debut at Homestead-Miami Speedway in 2005, 28 different drivers have piloted JRM Chevrolets. The team’s tally currently stands at nine wins, 77 top-fives and 162 top-10s. Additionally, JRM has earned seven poles and led 1,397 laps in Nationwide Series competition.

HISTORY WITH HELLMANN’S – Richmond marks JRM’s third of four races with Hell-mann’s as a primary sponsor in 2012. In the team’s two previous starts with the popu-lar brand, Whitt drove to a fourth-place finish in the season opener at Daytona, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. earned a fifth-place effort at Talladega. The team is averaging a finish of 4.5 in a Hellmann’s-branded Chevrolet in 2012.

.COM DECAL FEATURED ON GO DADDY CHEVROLET - The No. 7 Go Daddy Chevrolet will feature a .com decal on its hood this weekend in Richmond. A top-level domain and the most recognized domain worldwide, .com was one of the original domains introduced in 1985. Currently, there are more than 100 million registered .com names worldwide. Register a .com domain at accredited registrars like GoDaddy.com.

CAREER-BEST SHORT TRACK FINISH - Danica Patrick and the Go Daddy team are only two races removed from a ninth-place finish at Bristol Motor Speedway, a career-best short track effort for the Roscoe, Ill. native and her second top 10 of 2012. Patrick improved 25 positions from her starting spot and capitalized on a pit stop for four fresh tires to crack the top 10 in the waning stages of the race.

WHITT AND COOK COMBO - On the cusp of his second consecutive top-10 finish, Whitt’s season tally now stands at 10 top-10 finishes. This weekend will mark Whitt’s 20th race with crew chief Bruce Cook. Since Cook moved into the crew chief role on the 88 team, Whitt has amassed two top-five and eight top-10 finishes.

WHITT TO MAKE TWO APPEARANCES IN RICHMOND MARKET - Whitt will make a pair of autograph appearances on Thursday, Sept 6., beginning at Walmart, located at 7430 Bell Creek Rd, Mechanicsville, Va. at 3 p.m. to EST.
