Truex Battles From The Back To A 16th-Place-Finish

For the second time this season, Ryan Truex teamed up with RAB Racing to pilot the No 99 ToyotaCare/Grime Boss Camry. The 20-year-old Mayetta, N.J. native and the RAB Racing crew were eager to hit the ground running at Richmond International Speedway Friday morning.

Truex, who describes Richmond as one of his favorite tracks on the NASCAR circuit, fought hard from the rear of the field multiple times throughout the evening to bring home a 16th-place finish by the end of the Virginia 529 College Savings 250.

Earlier that afternoon Truex qualified his Toyota Camry in the 33rd spot, with a time of 22.675 seconds after scraping the wall coming to the green flag. After inspecting their Camry, the crew concluded that the damage was only cosmetic and would be strong come race time.

Once the green flag waved, Truex made quick work of the competition in front of him and marched towards the front of the field. By lap 15 he had moved inside the top 20, and would not fall back outside the top-20 for the remainder of the evening. In what became a theme throughout the evening, Truex reported that he was tight through the center of the corner. Each pit stop crew chief Scott Zipadelli called for the right adjustments to loosen up the No. 99 Camry.

At times tempers flared and patience were tested, but Truex remained focused on his race. A fast crew and the right calls pit road allowed Truex to bring home a solid 16th-place-finish in his eighth start of 2012.

"I'm really proud of the hard work the guys at RAB Racing did today. We had a fast car capable of running up front; we just needed track position from the start," said Truex. "I can't thank Robby Benton, RAB Racing, Grime Boss and Toyota for the opportunity. I can't wait to get back behind the wheel of the No. 99 at Dover.
