ESR & Brandon Jones Race Report -- Jones Records Another Top-10 Finish At Kingsport (Tenn) Speedway

In a weekend of challenges, Brandon Jones and the No. 33 Eddie Sharp Racing (ESR) Chevrolet team overcame adversity to finish sixth at Kingsport (Tenn.) Speedway on Friday night in the United Auto Racing Association (UARA) STARS Series. Jones drove a solid event to race through the field and run in the top-five during the closing laps. After a late-race caution moved him back to ninth in the running order, the young driver picked up three positions to cross the finish line in sixth-place after 150 laps.

Enrolled in his freshman year of high school, Jones missed the opening practice on Thursday night at the 0.375-mile concrete oval, but was able to get acclimated to the track during two shorter practice sessions on Friday. Jones noticed a problem with his motor during qualifying requiring his team to open the hood and work on the car after qualifying on Friday afternoon. With less than three hours until the green flag was scheduled to fall, Jones' ESR crew worked quickly to resolve the problem.

With a post-qualifying impound rule in effect, Jones was required to start the Model City 150 from the rear of the field. The Atlanta native slowly picked his way through the field, passing competitors and making his way to the front. Around lap 135, Jones was racing in the fourth position when an untimely caution resulted in him being pushed back to the ninth position for the restart. The race ended with an eight-lap shootout where Jones picked up three positions to take the checkered flag in the sixth position.

"I had a lot of fun racing through the field on Friday night," commented Jones. "It's been a couple weeks since we last raced, so it was really exciting to be back in the car and race through the field. We had a problem with our motor early in the day, but as always, my ESR team fixed the issue and gave me a great racecar. I'm looking forward to being back in the car again next week at Lonesome Pine Raceway."

Jones will be back behind the wheel in the UARA-STARS Series this Saturday, September 22, at Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, Va.
