Hanson, a 42-year-old, Los Angeles business owner began the 171 Challenge in August of this year. His goal is to attain personal growth, help those in need and be the catalyst for change in the lives of others. Hanson has dedicated the challenge to raising money for various charitable causes, including Racing For Cancer.

"I'm very excited to name Racing for Cancer as one of the event beneficiaries for the 171 Challenge," said Hanson. "I wanted to align the 171 Challenge with causes that reflect my core values and Racing For Cancer really caught my attention. I've seen Racing For Cancer in action and they walk the walk. They provide education, build awareness and offer another valuable resource: hope. It's an honor for me to carry the Racing For Cancer message and colors to the top of the world. I will do my best to help them continue the fight against this horrible and devastating disease."

Racing For Cancer co-founder Tom Vossman echoed Hanson's sentiment and looks forward to the unique opportunity to spread the organization's message.

"We are very excited about being named a beneficiary of the 171 Challenge," said Vossman. "Troy Hanson is setting out to accomplish something simply extraordinary and because of his passion for racing, combined with his even stronger passion to give back, we are humbled to be named one of only three charities to benefit from his selfless efforts.

"If you think about this commitment, it certainly reminds us of the commitment over 28 million have had to make to battle cancer each and every day. Ryan [Hunter-Reay], Beccy [Hunter-Reay] and I are proud to support Troy's journey on behalf of all those fighting today!"

Ryan Hunter-Reay, 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series champion and Vossman's Racing For Cancer co-founder added, "I am so impressed with Troy's commitment over the next 12 months and I couldn't be happier for Racing For Cancer to be named the first official charity of the 171 Challenge. We wish Troy a safe adventure. Beat cancer!"

Currently, Hanson is working his way to the top of Kilimanjaro. His next stop on the 171 Challenge circuit is Carstensz Pyramid. The goal is to complete all seven climbs in less than one year.
