1) The V8 Utes celebrated their 200th race at Bathurst in 2008.

2) Former NASCAR development driver and current DVS Supercar driver George Miedecke holds the fastest lap time in a V8 Ute around Mount Panorama. Miedecke set the record in Race 1, 2009 in a time of 2:34.46.

Two drivers have come close to Miedecke’s record. David Sieders missed the record in 2010 by four tenths of a second and Harris last year by only six one hundredths of a second (2:34.4687 – Miedecke), (2:34.8781 – Sieders), (2:34.5358 - Harris).

In 2008, the lap record was broken in all three of the V8 Ute Races, Race 1 by Grant Johnson and Race 2 and Race 3 by Kim Jane. The improvement on the cars from 2006 – 2008 was evident. In Race 1, eleven people broke the lap record including; Grant Johnson, Layton Crambrook, Gary MacDonald, Gary Baxter, Clint Harvey, George Miedecke, Jack Elsegood, Kim Jane, Stephen Robinson, Charlie Kovacs and Andrew Fisher.

3) Mount Panorama has favoured Ford’s in the past with six round wins compared to Holden’s two.

4) V8 Utes raced at Bathurst in their inaugural year in 2001. Grant Denyer set the fastest pole time in qualifying ahead of Damien White while Gary MacDonald set the fastest race lap with a time of 2:42.98.

5) This is the first time in V8 Ute history we will have two females competing in the Series, Hayley Swanson and Amber Anderson - who will also be driving the V8 Supercar Safety Car.

6) This will be the ninth year that the V8 Utes have competed at Mount Panorama, with the previous events held in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.

7) 17 out of the 36 drivers competing have raced a V8 Ute before at Bathurst;

Other drivers with V8 Ute experience driving in the 2012 Bathurst 1000 race include; two-time V8 Ute Champion (2002/03) Warren Luff, Reigning V8 Ute Champion Chris Pither, Allan Simonsen (2005), Luke Youlden (2010), Steve Owen (2010), Paul Morris (2010), Auto One Wildcard drivers; Marcus Marshall (Barbagallo 2011), James Moffat (2005 V8 Ute Rookie of the Year) Tim Blanchard (Darwin 2011/12), Dean Canto (Townsville 2011) and David Besnard (Gold Coast 2011) V8 Ute Driver Standards Advisor Andrew Jones will also take part in the Great Race with Jason Bright for Brad Jones Racing.

V8 Ute regular Cameron McConville will also steer a V8 Supercar alongside James Courtney for the Toll Holden Racing team and has a podium under his belt from 2010 when he drove with Garth Tander.

8) This is the first time in V8 Ute history with more than 32 Utes on the Grid. There are 36 entries in this year’s event including; 16 Ford FG’s, 1 Ford BF, and 19 VE Holden’s. The additional 3 Holden Entries will be from the New Zealand V8 Ute Series.

9) The normal 32 cars that belong in the Series will be vying for the chance to win Round 5 of the Series, whilst the invitational drivers will be driving for the chance to win the Bathurst Challenge Trophy.

10) It’s compulsory for all series competitor Ford drivers to run the new FG model from this round onwards. The new Ford FG model was introduced at Bathurst last year and was driven by Gary Carson. Carson was the first driver to test the new model in a Series event; however was not the first to drive the FG around Bathurst. The car was originally entered in the 2010 Armor All Bathurst 12 Hour with Sieders Racing, driven by Andrew Fisher, Ben Dunn and Jack Elsegood.

11) New additions to the V8 Ute field this round include: Tasmanian Layton Barker, Sean Carter, Amber Anderson, Steve Charman (Pizza Hut), Tom Williamson, Leigh Lovegood and New Zealanders, James “Huggi” Urquart, Peter “Kaos” Ward and Peter “Rocketman” Robb.

12) Four times Bathurst Champion Tony “No Baloney” Longhurst will steer the Auto One Wildcard Ute at Bathurst. This is Longhurst’s third time in a V8 Ute (2010 Clipsal 500 Ten Years of Legends Race) and his second as the Auto One Wildcard driver (Sandown, 2011).

13) A “control” gearbox will be introduced to the V8 Ute Series for the first time at Bathurst, with both Ford and Holden Utes now running common ratios. All gearboxes will be supplied by Wagga based Australian Transmission Components, and will feature the standard Ford/Holden Tremec OE gearbox, however the Holden gearbox will now reflect the same ratios as the Ford. ATC will supply sealed and rebuilt gearboxes for all competitors for the remaining rounds of the series.

14) 2011 Bathurst V8 Ute Champion Ryal Harris will return to defend his title and is looking to put some points on the ENZED championship leader-board. The Gold Coaster is only 8 points behind Series Leader Nathan Pretty.
