SRT Motorsports -- Pastrana Has Mechanical Issues In GRC Race -- Las Vegas
Travis Pastrana’s hopes for a strong finish in Saturday night’s Global RallyCross (GRC) main event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway ended early when the action sports superstar was sidelined by a mechanical problem. He was credited with a 10th-place finish in the final rundown.

Pastrana was seeded third overall and was in position to win his heat race. However, he was penalized when he mistakenly took the “joker” short cut twice during Heat 3 and was assessed a penalty. Drivers are allowed just one shortcut per race.
The driver of the No. 199 Red Bull/Discount Tire Dodge Dart earned a starting spot in the feature with a second-place finish in the Last Chance Qualifier, crossing the finish line 1.017 seconds behind winner Andreas Erikson.
Two laps into the main event, Pastrana was racing hard in third when his Dodge Dart slowed. He traced the mechanical problems back to his mistake in the heat race.
“I think it really started when I took the joker twice,” said Pastrana. “I always laugh when someone does it and we made that mistake tonight. It took us from a chance to start on the front row to best-case scenario to starting on the third row, which we ended up doing. I ran that extra heat and had the boost and everything turned up real high. I think it ended up blowing the turbo. We did all our qualifying runs and all our practice runs on that course, so it was just brain fade on my part. It’s just very disappointing.”
Tanner Foust edged Brian Deegan for the win.
