2012 Japan GP (Suzuka): Formula One (F1) LIVE Update - Vettel Leads After First Pitstops

The grandstands are full and the Formula One (F1) 2012 Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka circuit continues on lap 18 with Pole sitter Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull) in the lead after the first round of pitstops.
Felipe Massa (Ferrari) is running second after the first set of pitstops with Kamui Kobayashi (Sauber) running third.
Jenson Button is fourth but is reporting gearbox problems after 18 laps. Button took a 5-place grid penalty to install this gearbox.
Kimi Raikkonen (Lotus) is fifth.
Ko'd early in the race was Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso who leads the championship, and Nico Rosberg (Mercedes).
Today's Pirelli tyres are the hard (silver) tyres or the soft (Yellow) tyres.
