Truex hosted more than 200 guests at the 3rd Annual Fan Event on Sept. 26 in Manahawkin, NJ for an evening of fun and entertainment with fans. Much of the Truex family came out to support the cause, including Martin’s younger brother, NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Ryan Truex. Guests had the opportunity to get autographs from the Truex brothers and were entertained with food, live music, silent auction items and raffle prizes.
The following day 128 golfers took to the greens for the 5th Annual Martin Truex Jr. Foundation Golf Tournament at the beautiful 18-hole championship Sea Oaks Golf Course in Little Egg Harbor, NJ. The evening culminated with the 19th Hole Dinner Celebration presented by Sea Watch International. The dinner, which hosted more than 200 guests, included gourmet dining, comedian Andy Pitz from HBO and the Jay Leno Show, and a live and silent auction. The live auction featured some incredible items including a 2013 Tracker Bass Boat donated by Jonny Morris from Bass Pro Shops, guitars autographed by Blake Shelton and the Eagles, and a 2013 U.S. Open VIP golf package. The silent auction featured an array of entertainment and vacation experiences, jewelry and sports memorabilia.
In a tribute to recognizing others that are making a difference in the lives of children, the foundation honored David Caldarella as this year’s Humanitarian of the Year. Now in its third year, the award recognizes an outstanding citizen or organization that, through their time and talent, has exemplified the values of volunteerism and philanthropy. David, a NJ native and stage IV cancer survivor, dedicated his life to starting a foundation, David’s Dream and Believe Cancer Foundation which raises funds to provide financial assistance to families primarily in NJ affected by cancer to help them offset costs of physician visits, treatments, medications, lodging and transportation.
The week’s activities also included Truex touring the “Martin Truex Jr. Pediatric Care Center” now under construction at Southern Ocean Medical Center. The center is scheduled to open in January 2013 and, while operating in an Emergency Department, will be designed and decorated to welcome and care for children and their families. Staff will be able to facilitate treatment and observations of pediatric patients with urgent care needs, as well as routine medical issues. The MTJF has committed $250,000 for the new construction.
