Motionsport, founded by successful businessman Simon Phillips in 2010, has quickly established itself as a front running team in GT and Endurance races, and won their class in the Britcar Production GTN Championship at their first attempt in 2011. This year they currently lead the MSA British Endurance Championship Class 2 with their Ferrari 458, and Class 4 in their Lotus Elise. They also took a Class win at the recent 24 hours of Barcelona.

Motionsport have drafted in ex-single seater, BTCC, Le Mans driver and BRDC member Gary Ayles to front the new division and to focus on their single seater operation.

Team Principal Simon Phillips said: “We are pleased to be able to bring someone with Gary’s experience and knowledge to the team. Since the BRDC F4 championship was announced a few weeks ago it was an obvious fit to both our ambitions and Gary has the skills and ability to really bring exciting new talent to the front of the British motorsport scene. It should be good fun!”

Gary Ayles added: “It’s great to be joining Motionsport and working with Simon on moving the team forwards along the single seater route. We have all the resources available to us to have a front running team in Formula 4 and onwards. As a driver I spent many years in single seaters driving Formula Ford to Formula 3000 alongside some very quick and now very famous drivers! I look forward to using my experience to help our drivers to be right at the front in Formula 4.”

Jonathan Palmer, Formula 4 Series Director said: “Gary and I raced in the BTCC together in 1991 and I’m delighted he’s now extending his huge experience of GT race team management to single seaters with F4. Motionsport principal Simon Phillips has a track record of winning so I’ve no doubt the combination of Gary and Simon is going to produce a very competitive BRDC F4 team.”
