F1600 Championship On The Line At Watkins Glen

With two races left in the F1600 Formula F Championship Series, Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing driver Matias Köykkä leads by 15 points in the driver standings. This weekend’s events at the Watkins Glen International will decide who is crowned champion.

Köykkä has three wins and six poles in the first 10 races. He is hoping to have a good weekend at the famed 11-turn, 3.4-mile racetrack.

"I am feeling excited heading to the last race after a long break between Summit Point and the Glen," Köykkä said. "We are in a great position to fight for the title, which is the goal we are aiming for. It'll take a good setup and driving, and I think we will be able to put those two together."

The team will be without Shae Davies who had to withdrawal due to injuries sustained in last weekend’s Formula Ford race at Bathurst. Neil Alberico will take over the No. 9 Spectrum Honda. Alberico spent the 2012 racing season in the USF2000 Series.

"The obvious goal is to win," Alberico said. "But, honestly I'm just looking forward to working with the Capes and having a bit of fun. And with such a great group of guys, that goal is not going to be hard to accomplish."

"We wish Shae a speedy recovery," said team owners Dominic and Nicholas Cape. "We wish he was racing for us this weekend, but we are happy to have Neil with us at Watkins Glen. We are focused on having good races for both drivers, and we feel confident Matias will leave as a champion."

The Spectrum chassis has proven to be a winner six times for the team, in addition to Köykkä’s three wins, Davies also had three wins in the chassis.

"We would like to thank Borland Racing for their support and providing us the Spectrum chassis, and also a thank you to Honda Racing HPD for their support all season long."

The team drivers will first be on track Friday, October 12th for practice and qualifying, and Race 1 on Saturday, October 13th. Qualifying and Race 2 (the final race of the season) is scheduled for Sunday, October 14th. For more information and for live timing and scoring, please visit www.f1600series.com. You can follow the team on Facebook and Twitter (CMwithWTR) for updates.

Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing was formed in 2010 as a partnership between two successful racing entities. With leadership from brothers Nicholas and Dominic Cape, and along with Wayne Taylor and his organization in Indianapolis, the team campaigns cars in the Cooper Tires Presents the USF2000 National Championship Powered by Mazda and the F1600 Formula F Championship Series.
