Lofton Succumbs To Mechanical Problems In The Bluewater Desert Challenge
While many competitors in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) took a weekend off, Justin Lofton returned to his roots to compete in the BlueWater Desert Challenge with the Best in the Desert (BITD) Off-Road Racing Association. Driving the No. 1577 Lofton Cattle / General Tire / South Point Hotel & Casino / Impact / Fox Racing Shocks / SPEED Energy / J6 INK / Jimco Racing Inc. Trophy Truck, Lofton succumbed to mechanical damage in both days of the two-day competition. With a 26-mile course through the rough desert terrain, competitors in the BITD made three laps around the course on Saturday afternoon and three more on Sunday.

In Saturday's competition, Lofton rolled off third in his No. 1577 Jimco trophy truck. Before the competition began, BITD officials issued entrants a list of 20 dangers along the course, but Lofton found an unlisted danger during his first lap of the event. Between mile markers 17 and 18, Lofton hit a large hole breaking a front arm and causing severe damage to the left front of the Lofton Cattle / General Tire / South Point Hotel & Casino / Impact / Fox Racing Shocks / SPEED Energy / J6 INK / Jimco Racing Inc. trophy truck. Lofton's crew worked through the night to fix their vehicle and get Lofton back in the race for Sunday's event.
After breaking down on Saturday, Lofton was the final competitor to roll off in Class 1500 on Sunday afternoon. The NCWTS regular made it through the first lap unscathed but succumbed to a mechanical failure at mile 19 on the second lap. Unable to complete the event, Lofton and teammate Jorge Lameda finished the BlueWater Desert Challenge in the last position.
In just two weeks, on Oct. 27, Lofton will climb back in the cockpit to continue his fight for the NCWTS championship at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway. Live coverage of the Kroger 200 will begin at 1:30 p.m. ET on SPEED, MRN Radio and Sirius XM NASCAR Radio, channel 90. Fans can also watch NCWTS practice on Friday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. ET, and qualifying from the short track on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. ET. All events will be broadcast on SPEED.
