Hard-Charger Bujdoso Ready For ARCA Finale

Robert Bujdoso (“bouy-da-show”) will contest his third career ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race this weekend in the season-finale event held at Kansas Speedway on Friday. Bujdoso will campaign the No. 91 Checkered Express Ford as he joins Bowsher Motorsports for the second time this season. With two top-15 ARCA finishes in as many races already under the Ohio-racer’s belt, Bujdoso looks to make the most of the Kansas Lottery 98.9 event with another strong outing.

The No. 91 Ford, which was once Ricky Rudd’s NASCAR Sprint Cup car, will run a Rhyne Competition Racing engine and Roush chassis as Bujdoso is set for his first race start at the 1.5-mile Kansas tri-oval.

Bujdoso, a five-time national champion in the karting ranks, made his first ARCA start driving for Andy Belmont Racing last October in the season-finale event at Toledo Speedway and delivered an award-winning performance. After starting from 27th on the grid, he ran as high as fourth before taking 15th at the finish, netting him the “Hard Charger Award” after gaining more positions than any other driver.

Though Friday’s event will mark Bujdoso’s first race start at Kansas Speedway, the 19-year-old gained valuable experience having had a strong test at the track earlier this month with Bowsher Motorsports. The full day of testing saw Bujdoso receive plenty of track time as he continued to learn the intricacies of the new track in the Checkered Express Ford.

Bujdoso is well-situated for Friday’s event as he once again joins one of the most experienced and successful teams in the ARCA paddock. With over 80 victories through five decades, Bowsher Motorsports is the winningest ARCA Racing team in history.

“We are very much looking forward to the Kansas race this weekend,” said Team Owner and Crew Chief Todd Bowsher. “Getting the chance to test before the race weekend was a great way not only for Robert to get a feel for the track and the car, but also for us to continue to get more comfortable working together and it went well. Robert has adapted quickly to these big cars, which are of course a significant step up from karts. But he’s been smart with his approach, and has a lot of natural speed. We just want to pick up where we left off at the end of the test and make sure he’s got a good car underneath him for the race.”

The pairing proved to be a successful combination when Bujdoso joined Bowsher at the Chicagoland Speedway event in July. In just his second ARCA start, Bujdoso quickly acclimated to the stock car during the two-day event and qualified 14th among the 34-car field. In a field that is packed with experience, Bujdoso impressed with his speed and consistency on his way to finishing 15th.

“I’m so thrilled to have this opportunity to be back in a stock car this weekend,” said Bujdoso, who recently began classes as a freshman at Youngstown State University. “I can’t thank Checkered Express enough for all of their support. I think we have a strong car and we made a lot of progress during the test so I’m hopeful for another good result on Friday. Bowsher Motorsports has so much experience and I’ve already seen firsthand how strong this Bowsher organization is in the time that we’ve worked together so I just can’t wait to get back behind the wheel!”

The Kansas Lottery 98.9 will be held as part of the NASCAR event at the Speedway with both the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series also featured throughout the weekend. The ARCA schedule for Friday is a compact one with a 2 hour and 15 minute practice beginning at 10:00 AM (ET), qualifying at 6:35 PM (ET), and the 99-lap race set for an 8:30 PM (ET) green flag.

SPEED will carry live coverage of the event beginning at 8:30 PM (ET). Live timing and scoring can also be followed throughout the weekend at http://timing1.arcaracing.com/.
