Rallycross Goes To Town

Just a week before the Star Radio-supported MSA British Rallycross Grand Prix takes place at Croft Circuit near Darlington, many of the leading drivers and their cars will be in Northallerton this forthcoming Sunday afternoon where the general public can meet the stars and even see the 550bhp Supercars in action!

For the first time ever for a motorsport event, the High Street in the town will be closed and the organisers, working in conjunction with North Yorkshire County Council and North Yorkshire Police, will put on a live demonstration of a selection of Rallycross cars. There will be a static display too with the public able to see the cars at close quarters. Associate sponsor Star Radio will also be present and interacting with the drivers and public.

Amongst the drivers taking part will be Leeming businessman Kevin Procter in his Ford Focus Supercar, the SuperModified Lotus Exige of York's Ashley Simpson and former British Grand Prix and multiple Championship winner Pat Doran's Citroƫn DS3 driven by Graham Rodemark.

Most of the local competitors taking part in the following weekend's GP will be present including Suzuki Swift of Northallerton's Johny Bean, Dave Bellerby and Paige Bellerby as well as Charlie Bean (Swift Junior). Darren Grimston from Brompton (Citroen Saxo) and Tony Bell from Ferryhill (BMW Mini) will also be present from around 12.00 noon.

Promoter, Richard Place commented: "We've been wanting to do something like this for quite a while, and Northallerton High Street was an obvious choice for us with Croft Circuit just up the road. It's not common knowledge but Northallerton and the surrounding areas seems to be an organic hub for motorsport in particular rallying and rallycross with numerous competitors, preparation companies, motorsport schools, promoters, suppliers and even a professional commentator so it's fairly big business. We want to make the locals aware of this and reach out to them to get involved and support us in any way they can and hopefully this event will deliver a small taste of what to expect at Croft the following weekend."

The road will be closed between 12pm and 4pm with a diversion in place and there will also be limited car parking. The full list of drivers and cars anticipated is as follows:

. Kevin Procter - Leeming - (Ford Focus)
. Graham Rodemark - East Sussex - Pat Doran's Citroen DS3
. Lance Foster - Houghton le Spring - (Mini)
. Russ Simpson - Pocklington - (Citroen C2)
. Ash Simpson - Pocklington - (Lotus Exige)
. Dave Bellerby - Northallerton - (TBA)
. Kris Hudson - Harrogate - (BMW Mini)
. Keifer Hudson - Harrogate - (BMW Mini)
. Tony Bell - Ferryhill - (BMW Mini)
. Chris Mullen - Leeds - (Suzuki Swift)
. Johny Bean - Northallerton - (Suzuki Swift)
. Paige Bellerby - Northallerton - (Suzuki Swift)
. Charlie Bean - Northallerton - (Suzuki Swift)
. Darren Grimston - Brompton - (Citroen Saxo and Ford Escort Mk1)
. North East Ford RS Owners including MK1 Escort Cossack (one of fastest Mk1's in UK)
. Static display of Andy Scott's Peugeot 306 Supercar and Marc Scott's RX150

The entry list for the Grand Prix currently stands at 70 drivers including ten international entries from Poland, Belgium, Finland, Netherlands and Ireland who are planning to contest the two day event. Solo Thermal Imaging, Maktrak, Oak Tree Garage, SHC and RGPS are the latest companies to come on board as associate sponsors also.

In addition to the Grand Prix on the Sunday, Saturday will see the final round of the Monster Energy MSA British Rallycross Championship in Association with Maktrak which will see all the titles decided.
