2012 NHRA: Confident Lucas Ready To Light Up Las Vegas With GEICO Dragster
Although there are only two races left in the NHRA Full Throttle Series season, Morgan Lucas is confident there is a lot of winning left in the GEICO/Lucas Oil Top Fuel dragster, starting with this weekend's Big O Tires NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

"We went to the semis in Las Vegas at the spring race and got a lot of good data," Lucas said. "The weather conditions look really nice and it should be a good opportunity for us to climb a couple spots in the points."
Lucas has maintained the sixth position during the Countdown, but with a strong end to the season he's still got chance to move up. His first target is an obvious one as Lucas is 47 points behind teammate Brandon Bernstein, who is currently fifth.
"I'm so proud that both our cars have the potential to go to the late rounds in any race we go to," Lucas said. "What's most exciting is this is just the beginning of what we can do and there's plenty of room to improve on from here.
"I don't think we're going to have to make any big changes after this year. All we'll need to do is take a good look at the information we've collected all season long and just make small improvements."
In the kinds of conditions the GEICO rail will run in this weekend, Lucas has three wins and four No. 1 qualifiers, including earning the top spot in Vegas earlier this year.
"The conditions are going to be there for us," Lucas said. "We feel real confident about racing at these cool, tight racetracks. If we can get to where we were in the beginning of the season when the car was getting to the 60-foot mark really well, there's no limit on the success we can have this weekend."
Qualifying for the Big O Tires NHRA Nationals gets under way at noon PDT from The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The racing picks back up at 11 a.m. Saturday with two more rounds of qualifying. Sunday's eliminations get under way at 11 a.m. ESPN2 will broadcast the qualifying show at 1:30 a.m. EDT on Sunday with the eliminations show being broadcast starting at 4 p.m. Sunday.
