2012 NHRA: Bernstein Remains The Most Consistent Driver In Countdown Race
With the NHRA season coming down to its final two events -- starting with this weekend's Big O Tires NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway -- Brandon Bernstein and the ProtectTheHarvest.com/MAVTV Top Fuel dragster team still have some goals they want to cross off their list.

"We may be out of the hunt for the championship, but we can still move up a couple of spots," Bernstein said. "We want to try and win one of these last two races and move up in the standings a little bit before we call it a year."
The ProtectTheHarvest.com car has been on a roll during the Countdown, reaching the semifinals in all four postseason races to date. Bernstein's moved from eighth place at the start of the Countdown to his current perch of fifth.
With eight rounds of racing left in the season, Bernstein still has a shot to finish as high as third in the standings. Bernstein is 37 points in back of fourth-place Shawn Langdon and 41 behind third-place Tony Schumacher.
"When you are on a roll like we have been with so many consecutive semifinals and the car running so consistently, you feel like you want to just keep going with it," Bernstein said. "We should just pick right back up where we left off two weeks ago. Hopefully we'll do well enough to at least keep the streak going if not go far enough to get a win."
Bernstein said he was glad to get a break from the road for the last couple of weeks, if just to make sure his kids still recognize their daddy.
"It's been nice to be home this long and spend time with the family," Bernstein said. "It's been really great. You can be on the road so much the kids can forget who you are.
"I can't wait to get back to Vegas. It's a great track with a lot of great history with our family. It's just an exciting venue."
Qualifying for the Big O Tires NHRA Nationals gets under way at noon PDT from The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The racing picks back up at 11 a.m. Saturday with two more rounds of qualifying. Sunday's eliminations get under way at 11 a.m. ESPN2 will broadcast the qualifying show at 1:30 a.m. EDT on Sunday with the eliminations show being broadcast starting at 4 p.m. Sunday.
