NASCAR Number: 19.6 (Oct. 29, 2012)
By Reid Spencer NASCAR Wire Service
19.6: Brad Keselowski’s average starting position in the seven Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup races so far this year. In contrast, Jimmie Johnson’s average qualifying effort has been 8.9, a difference of 10.7 starting spots per race. The most egregious difference came at Martinsville, where Johnson won the pole and Keselowski qualified 32nd. Though Johnson subsequently won Sunday’s TUMS Fast Relief 500, Keselowski soldiered to a career-best sixth-place finish at the vaunted short track. That didn’t prevent Johnson, however, from grabbing a two-point lead in the Cup standings with three races left in the Chase.
