Martinsville Speedway's Billy Moore Receives Extra Mile Award

Martinsville Speedway employees and volunteers were cheering for teammate William (Billy) P. Moore Jr. this past weekend. Moore is not a NASCAR driver and didn’t compete in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race Sunday, but he was recognized for his unfailing work ethic and dedication. Moore was named this year’s ServiceMaster Clean Extra Mile Award recipient for Martinsville Speedway.

Currently serving as the Martinsville Speedway track superintendent, Moore has provided more than 31 years of service to the speedway community. As track superintendent, the Pittsylvania County (Va.) native wears a multitude of hats to oversee the track’s daily maintenance including groundskeeper, painter, mechanic and machinery operator. The team at Martinsville Speedway describes Moore as being a tremendous source of knowledge and information for those who have the pleasure to work with him.

“I can think of no one who is more deserving of this award than Billy Moore. He has been a vital part of the Martinsville Speedway team for more than 30 years,” said Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell. “Several words come to mind when I think of how to describe him….unselfish, loyal, dedicated, honest and kind. I think the one word I would definitely use to describe how I personally think of him is friend. He’s been a friend to me, my family and the Martinsville Speedway family for many years and he’s always one I can count on.”

Moore, who is 60 years old, demonstrates his dedication to making Martinsville Speedway the best operational track on the NASCAR circuit by displaying a humble and diligent work ethic.

Since its inception in 2010, the ServiceMaster Clean Extra Mile Award has recognized more than 30 track team members across the country. The award recipients can be any member of the track staff or volunteers who work in a service-oriented position. Track management personnel select the winner.

Each award winner’s name is engraved on a plaque that is displayed at the track where the individual works or volunteers. A personal plaque also is presented to recipients during their track’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race weekend.

“Martinsville Speedway’s 65-year-old history is built on the foundation of hard work and good people,” said Tom Coba, president of ServiceMaster Clean. “Billy’s unique spirit represents the passion and hospitality only found at Martinsville Speedway. We are honored to recognize a man so deserving and committed to excellence.”

Just like a ServiceMaster Clean caution signals a call for quick and professional action by the ServiceMaster track services team and equipment on the race track, it’s the same when you call
866-RECOVER if disaster strikes your home or business. It means cleaning and restoration is going to be handled quickly and professionally by America’s number one cleaning team.

ServiceMaster Clean is in its fourth season as the official sponsor of caution periods at 21 International Speedway Corp. (ISC), Speedway Motorsports Inc. (SMI) and Dover International Speedway tracks.
