NASCAR Number: 17.25 (Nov. 12, 2012)
By Reid Spencer, NASCAR Wire Service
17.25: The average finish of the 12 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers in Sunday’s AdvoCare 500 at Phoenix International Raceway, the worst average in nine Chase races so far this year. When Martin Truex Jr. dropped out with engine issues after 10 laps and finished 43rd, that signaled a bad night brewing for the Chasers. Jimmie Johnson blew a tire on Lap 234 and ran 32nd. Jeff Gordon wrecked Clint Bowyer on Lap 311, and those drivers finished 30th and 28th respectively. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was never a factor and finished 21st. Though Chase drivers Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin ran 1-2, it wasn’t enough to offset the problems of the Chasers who had serious issues.
