Countdown to Daytona, Dec. 23, 2012
By Reid Spencer NASCAR Wire Service
There are 63 days left before the Feb. 24, 2013 Daytona 500; hence, the number for today is:
63: One of the least-used car numbers at NASCAR’s highest level, the No. 63 has made just 146 starts in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series—without a win. In fact, the No. 63 is credited with leading just six laps in the Cup series, and all six came in the 1976 Daytona 500, when driver Terry Bivins led twice for that six-lap total. Those are the only recorded laps led by the No. 63, though there are a number of races from the 1950s and early 1960s for which lap leader statistics aren’t available. The car number was last used in the 1996 Daytona 500, with driver Dick Trickle completing nine laps in the No. 63 and finishing 43rd.
