There are 57 days left before the Feb. 24, 2013 Daytona 500; hence the number for today is:
57: The number of cars that started the 1957 NASCAR Grand National (now NASCAR Sprint Cup Series) race at the Daytona Beach & Road Course. That was the only event of the year for legendary driver Tim Flock, who started 10th and finished 12th in Bill Stroppe’s No. 15 Mercury. Just two years earlier, Flock had dominated NASCAR’s highest division, winning 18 times in 39 starts—including the Beach & Road Course race from the pole—en route to the second of his two championships.
