There are 55 days left before the Feb. 24, 2013 Daytona 500; hence the number for today is:
55: The number of career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series poles for Bill Elliott and Mark Martin, tied for seventh all-time and second to Jeff Gordon (72) among active drivers. From 1985 through 1987, Elliott started on the front row for six straight points races at Daytona International Speedway, winning the Daytona 500 from the pole in 1985 and 1987. Martin has one Daytona 500 pole to his credit (2010 with Hendrick Motorsports) but has never won the Great American Race.
