Bennett And Braun Join Doran Racing For Rolex 24 Assault

Two-time American Le Mans Series PC class championship runner-up Jon Bennett is set to make his Rolex 24 debut at Daytona this year with regular ALMS co-driver, Colin Braun.

The CORE autosport duo will join forces with Doran Racing's Dr. Jim Lowe and former Champ Car champion Paul Tracy in the newly upgraded No.77 Riley-bodied Dallara-Ford DP.

Bennett and Braun will also contest another round of the North American Endurance Championship with Lowe, the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen. Additionally, the duo will team up for the second round of the GRAND-AM Rolex Series in the Doran Racing entry at Austin's Circuit of the Americas.

With the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron and the GRAND-AM Rolex Series merging in 2014, the CORE autosport duo are set to gain valuable race miles at two venues which will form part of the new combined championship next year.

Bennett and Braun's primary program for 2013 will be a title assault on the 2013 ALMS championship where CORE autosport is targeting its third's consecutive championship.

While Bennett has contested club racing events at the famous Daytona track, this will be his first Rolex 24 attempt and his first 24 hour race. Braun will make his seventh start in the endurance classic.

The pair will get their first laps with Doran Racing this weekend at the Roar Before the 24 test at Daytona from January 4-6. The 51st running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona will be held on January 26-27.

The 16th and final ALMS season commences at the 61st running of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida on Saturday, March 16, at Sebring International Raceway.

Jon Bennett

"I've been a fan of the Rolex 24 for a long time and had always hoped one day to participate in it. This year the stars have aligned and I'm very excited to be with Doran Racing, a team that has a lot of experience in the 24-hour race, and in a very competitive car with Colin, Paul Tracy and Dr. Jim Lowe.

"I've had the chance to run at Daytona in club racing events, so I am familiar with the track layout, but this will be my first 24-hour race. I'm looking forward to experiencing that.

"Hopefully we'll be able to bring back some of the experience from this 24-hour race so that when CORE autosport debuts in 2014 at the Rolex, we’ll have some lessons to look back on.

"Colin and I both intend to be very competitive in this year's race, so it's not something we're doing just to gain experience. But the experience we gain will obviously help our team prepare for what's coming in 2014 for CORE autosport.

"I'm hoping to learn a little bit from all the experience Doran has in the 24-hour race. I think it will definitely help us prepare for our team’s 24-hour debut next year."

Colin Braun

"This is going to be my ninth consecutive Rolex 24. It's going to be a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to the opportunity to drive for Kevin. I've driven the Lola at Daytona, the Rileys at Daytona and have driven for quite a few Daytona Prototype teams, but never for Kevin.

"Jon and I are pretty excited to go do it together. It's going to be a lot of fun and also neat to re-live all the new things that Jon will experience for the first time. I've done it for so many years, so it kind of feels like a old hat and nothing too exciting. But it will be great to re-live it through his eyes.

"Driving the DP car is a lot of work. Those are cars that you have to muscle around. I really enjoy driving both the PC and the DP car. But there's so much more slip angle with the DP car and you're sliding around.

"For us, obviously on the ALMS side, we've run two years in the PC class and have been very successful. You have to keep learning and experience new things. We all know the Rolex 24 is going to be a big part of the 2014 calendar. I think as a team, it's great to get a jump start on building for 2014 by doing this race in 2013.

"It's a very helpful thing for all of us to do, especially for Jon as a driver, as he's never done a 24-hour race before. I think it's going to be a great thing for him to prepare himself and be sharp and ready to go."
