Countdown To Daytona For Thursday, Jan 3

There are 52 days left before the Feb. 24, 2013 Daytona 500; hence, today’s number is:

52: The age of NASCAR’s oldest race winner. To be precise, Harry Gant was 52 years, 7 months and 6 days old when he took the checkered flag for the final time in his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series career—on Aug. 16, 1992 at Michigan. All told, Gant won eight races after turning 50, and he’s also the Cup series’ oldest pole winner, having paced qualifying for the Aug. 27, 1994 race at Bristol at age 54. Gant won 18 races, 17 poles and finished in the top four in the final standings six times between 1979 and 1994 inclusive.
