Collectible NASCAR Hall Of Fame Engine To Be Auctioned At Barrett-Jackson
A Roush Yates-built "D3" Ford NASCAR Sprint Cup Series engine that has been the only Sprint Cup Series engine on display in the NASCAR Hall of Fame since its grand opening in 2010, and autographed by many living members of the NASCAR Hall of Fame, will be auctioned January 20th at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale.

Because many living members of the Hall of Fame autographed the engine, its collectability value soared to the degree that Barrett-Jackson, the World's Greatest Collector Car Auctions™, will auction the engine on Sunday January 20 at the annual event held at WestWorld of Scottsdale. Hall members who placed their signatures on the engine include Junior Johnson, Dale Inman, Glen and Leonard Wood, Richard Petty, Bobby Allison, Rusty Wallace - as well as HOF nominees Jack Ingram and Jerry Cook. Leonard Wood and Wallace will be officially inducted Feb. 8, 2013.
The engine is additionally unique in that portions are actually cut away to expose pistons, valves and other rotating parts that, when plugged into an attached electric drive motor, actually move slowly to perform their respective duties.
A majority of the proceeds from the sale of the engine will go to benefit Tree of Life, a relief agency based in Mission, S.D., that provides food pantry, clothing distribution, meal site, emergency home repairs, crisis center support, and suicide prevention services for Native Americans in the Dakotas; and the Friends of the NASCAR Hall of Fame Foundation, which commemorates motorsports by providing educational field trips to underprivileged youth across the region.
"This is a great educational piece that any true gear head would love to own," said Doug Yates, CEO of Roush Yates Engines. "We are so happy to be able to help benefit the Tree of Life and the Friends of the NASCAR Hall of Fame foundation."
The engine was removed from the Hall of Fame in May to be replaced by the newly implemented Roush Yates Ford FR9 electronic fuel injected Sprint Cup Series engine.
"This engine was a very important artifact for the NASCAR Hall of Fame from our opening until it was recently replaced with a new engine - also generously provided by Roush Yates Engines - featuring the new electronic fuel injection system. Our guests were mesmerized by the technology and how this cutaway engine provided such a unique visual understanding of the complexity of NASCAR engines. The additions of so many inductee autographs make it a true one-of a-kind collector's item, which will also provide a lasting impact on our Friends of the NASCAR Hall of Fame Foundation," says NASCAR Hall of Fame Executive Director Winston Kelley.
The engine will be auctioned under lot #1553.
