Dodge AMA Monster Energy Supercross Series Post-Race Quotes - Anaheim 1
BROC TICKLE (No. 20 Dodge/Sycuan Casino/RCH Racing/Bel-Ray/Suzuki Z450) Finished 18th
CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE INCIDENT WITH RYAN VILLOPOTO IN THE MAIN EVENT? “I didn’t see much until I got right up on him. He must have hit the tough block when he landed because (they) were all across the track. I dodged one and then dodged his bike and then ran into Villo (Villopoto) and crashed. It’s a bummer for everyone on this No. 20 Dodge/Sycuan Casino/RCH Racing/Bel-Ray/Suzuki Z450 team. We’re outta here healthy and I’m looking forward to next week in Phoenix. We’re making positive progress.”

ASSESS YOUR DAY TODAY: “Everything went pretty good. The speed is in the bike. Our Suzuki is fast. The only thing that I need to work on is getting better starts. I think we have a top-five bike. We just can’t give away track position because of poor starts. I’m exciting to get to Phoenix.”
IS THE MINDSET TO BE PATIENT OR TO BE AGGRESSIVE EARLY? “You have to be aggressive on the start. It’s so much easier to be up front and not around a bunch of guys. I just have to get better at putting myself in a position in the Heat race to get a better starting gate and have a better start in the Main.”
DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU CAN CARRY OVER SOME THINGS YOU LEARNED TO PHOENIX NEXT WEEKEND? “I think so. It’s a bit frustrating how the Main Event played out. Maybe I could have been a little better after I hit the deck, but you never know. I know our bike is really fast and tonight doesn’t reflect how good our team is. It was just one of those racing incidents that you couldn’t avoid.”
TONY BERTULI (Mechanic, No. 20 Dodge/Sycuan Casino/RCH Racing/Bel-Ray/Suzuki Z450)
TALK ABOUT THE NO. 20 TEAMS NIGHT: “We had a really good day until the Main Event. Broc was running about tenth; he and (Ryan) Villopoto were battling hard for a few laps. Villopoto hit a tough block and knocked it out of place and Broc had nowhere to go. (Broc) hit the tough block and it took him a few seconds to get back going and by then he was all the way back in 20th. We ended up 18th.”
DO YOU FEEL THAT YOU WERE ABLE TO GAIN A PRETTY GOOD BASELINE AFTER YOUR FIRST RACE? “I think so. Our base is going to be OK.
We just had some bad luck tonight in the Main Event when the real racing counts. Just one of those nights.”
STARTING POSITION AND A GOOD START WAS CERTAINLY A KEY TONIGHT: “Yeah, you have to get a good start. Our starts were terrible tonight. I’m sure we’ll work on that a lot this week. The competition is just too good to give up so many spots at the start of the race. Starting that far back (12th) didn’t help. As far as the baseline I think that we’re pretty good to go heading into Round 2. I think Broc is happy and comfortable with the bike. We just need to stay off the deck.”
JUST WRONG PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME TONIGHT IN THE MAIN EVENT: “For sure. He had no place to go and hit the deck.”
SHAWN BELL (Mechanic, No. 75 Dodge/Sycuan Casino/RCH Racing/Bel-Ray/Suzuki Z450) comments on why rider Josh Hill did not compete in the heat races and feature after sustaining a head injury during an afternoon practice session. Hill was withheld for precautionary reasons.
“Kind of a bummer,” said Bell. “Josh had a little trouble when he cross-rutted coming through the rhythm section and put the bike down. He banged his head a little bit and we thought it was the best option to have him looked at and hold him out of the race.
“He was good in practice. We had high expectations coming into tonight and we got bit by a gremlin. We’ve waited for this all offseason. It’s been pretty gnarly getting ready for Anaheim and everyone was looking forward to tonight’s race.”
