Echoing its open and friendly track hospitality, GT Cup is offering refreshments to drivers and media at the NEC. The GT Cup organising team will be on hand throughout the four days of the Show to talk about the 2013 Championship including the revised format and regulations. For the first time GT Cup is open to coach/pro drivers, broadening the appeal to the Championship, and Marc and his team are hoping to talk to interested drivers about that and other changes for 2013.
Marc Haynes, of the ‘Haynes Manuals’ family, will be on the stand on Thursday and Friday and will be available for interviews. In addition to being the creator of the GT Cup Championship he has competed on track himself. Marc introduced the GT Cup in 2007 and strives to provide a series that is attractive to gentlemen (and women) drivers. The Championship provides technical freedom with a close balance of performance for competitive and cost effective racing. The racing format has been improved to include compulsory pit-stops in the five 40 minute races, while the 14 sprint races remain 25 minutes long.
Cars appearing on the stand this weekend will be the 2012 Champion Derek Johnston’s Ferrari 458 GTC, championship returnees Rupert and Alex Martin’s Ferrari 458 Challenge and Chevron’s latest development GT car. GT Cup has a close association with its control tyre supplier Pirelli and at the show the two companies have adjacent stands, with GT Cup also having a dedicated office for confidential meetings in the Pirelli area.
Marc Haynes: “The Show is a great opportunity for the motorsport community to get together and spread the word about 2013 plans. It’s a perfect event for GT Cup to show what we’re about. Our position in the market is a bridge between club and professional racing and we have introduced the possible inclusion of a pro-driver per team to bring in support for some of our gentlemen drivers who will hopefully grow under their guidance. We are proud of our offering and we think GT Cup provides really good value, especially with the television package, low costs, fun and above all competitive racing.”
