Kansas Speedway Participates In Governor's Joplin Challenge

When deadly tornadoes hit Joplin, Mo. in May 2011, Kansas Speedway was one of dozens of groups that wanted to step in and help the city as it began to recover, so Kansas Speedway staff worked with the American Red Cross to stage a fundraiser that allowed people to drive their cars on the track.

The need to help didn’t end there, though, and Kansas Speedway was one of seven sports organizations to work with the Governor’s Joplin Challenge in 2012 to help build new homes in Joplin. The Governor’s Joplin Challenge worked with Habitat for Humanity to build 35 new homes in seven neighborhoods in the Joplin area. In addition to the Kansas Speedway/NASCAR neighborhood that will provide five families with new homes early this year, other neighborhoods include the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, the St. Louis Rams, Cardinals and Blues and the University of Missouri.

Additionally, Kansas Speedway worked with NASCAR and its “Green Flag” program to donate 100 trees to help with the landscape as Joplin rebuilds. The new trees, from Paradise Nursery, were planted after Kansas Speedway’s October 2012 race weekend on either side of Kentucky Street (between 20th and 27th) in Joplin.

Kansas Speedway season tickets, which are currently on sale, include both NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races (April 21 and Oct. 6), the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race (April 20), and the NASCAR Nationwide Series race (Oct. 5), along with a TrackPass, which allows you up close access to NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver introductions, the pre-race concert, and much more! Tickets can be purchased by logging onto www.kansasspeedway.com or calling 866.460.RACE (7223).

Individual race tickets are also on sale now by calling 866.460.RACE (7223) or logging onto www.kansasspeedway.com. Kansas Speedway’s 2013 season includes two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series the NASCAR Nationwide Series, the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards (Oct. 4) and new in 2013, GRAND-AM Road Racing (Aug. 16-17).

Parking is always free at Kansas Speedway and fans can bring in one 14x14x14-inch soft-sided cooler with their favorite food and beverages.
