NASCAR Hall Of Fame Inductee Junior Johnson Hosts Shine 'N Sign During NASCAR Acceleration Weekend; Free Admission Through Facebook

Race fans don’t have access to an inaugural NASCAR Hall of Fame member every day, but motorsports fans attending NASCAR’s Acceleration Weekend next month will. And if they play their cards right, they just might be able to meet a Hall of Famer and attend the NASCAR Preview 2013 free of charge.

In conjunction with NASCAR Preview 2013 on Feb. 9, the Southern Culture Society is hosting Junior Johnson’s Midnight Moon Shine ‘N Sign at the NASCAR Hall of Fame from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. During this event adjacent to the NASCAR Preview, the legendary Junior Johnson, a member of the NASCAR Hall of Fame’s inaugural class, will sign autographs and host a question and answer session. Patrons may enjoy Midnight Moon, crafted from Johnson’s family recipe, in either a cocktail or a flight of four samples of various Midnight Moon flavors. Barbecue sliders and additional refreshments will also be available while supplies last. Those under the age of 21 will not have access to any alcoholic beverages. The event is free with the purchase of a $20 ticket to the NASCAR Preview 2013, but there is an easy way to get free admission to both events.

Starting Monday, fans can visit the Midnight Moon Facebook page and fill out a brief form for entry into the daily drawing for a pair of free tickets to the NASCAR Preview 2013 and the Midnight Moon Shine ‘N Sign event. Junior Johnson’s Midnight Moon will award one set of tickets per day Jan. 21- 25 and Jan. 28 - Feb. 1 when the contest concludes.

The Shine ‘N Sign event is open to winners of the Midnight Moon Facebook contest as well as those who paid for admission to the NASCAR Preview 2013. In addition, the NASCAR Hall of Fame will be open for tours at no additional cost. Fans will be able to see the authentic still in which the Johnson family’s moonshine was made using the family recipe.

Johnson won 50 races and 49 poles as a NASCAR driver and is tied with Ned Jarrett for 11th place on NASCAR’s all-time victory list. After retiring from driving, Johnson became a team owner, and his drivers won 132 races and six series championships. Cale Yarborough won three straight titles for Johnson in 1976, ’77 and ’78. Darrell Waltrip won the other three championships in 1981, ’82 and ’85. Prior to their broadcasting careers, both Jeff Hammond of FOX Sports and Tim Brewer of ESPN won multiple championships as crew chiefs for Johnson. Johnson is ranked as the third most successful owner in NASCAR history. In addition, Johnson was the subject of Tom Wolfe’s famous essay for Esquire magazine in 1965 titled, “The Last American Hero is Junior Johnson. Yes!”

NASCAR Preview 2013 is a fan festival featuring autographs and on-stage question-and-answer sessions with top drivers from all three NASCAR national series. Fans also will be among the first to see the new sixth-generation NASCAR Sprint Cup Series cars and 2013 paint schemes.

NASCAR Acceleration Weekend also features the 2013 NASCAR Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, held at the Charlotte Convention Center, Friday, Feb. 8. Fans can be part of history as five NASCAR legends – Buck Baker, Cotton Owens, Herb Thomas, Rusty Wallace and Leonard Wood – are enshrined into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Tickets for the Induction Ceremony start at $45. Acceleration Weekend wraps up Sunday, Feb. 10 with the unveiling of the new NASCAR Hall of Fame inductees’ granite markers on the Ceremonial Plaza.
